Custom guitars, 7-8 strings, what are you looking for?

Hi there I made this 2+ plus years ago:
http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/extended-range-guitars/71367-nyatoh-eight-string-revisited.html

And now I'm looking to go into small scale production. So I thought I'd do a small open Q&A here about what you guys are looking for in a custom or semi-custom guitar.

As you can see I'm an 8 strings player and really love extended range/scale-length guitars. Would you guys be interested?

I also need feedback on 6 stringers, so just post here about anything, but specifically I need details on:
Price
Features
Wood selection, will SE Asian woods do? Locally soured wood will be cheaper than foreign woods.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss a possible order.

Unfortunately, I've already placed an order with Oni.

But yeah, sounds like a plan.

Basically anything Ibanez-like would be attractive. Heh.

woo, what was your order with Oni?

First time seeing their website, did you get their fanned frets models?

If I could get one, it'll probably be along the lines of a Blackmachine. Really thin neck and body, good access to higher frets, awesome top. Mainly just something light, with a fast neck but still really full sounding.

Features: bare knuckles pickups, string through body (definitely no floating bridges for me), locking tuners, extended scale length
Price: ~$2000 ?

Set-neck and neck through options (no neck heel FTW). Fixed bridge options (TOM with string-through FTW). Nut material and width options. Fret options. Neck size and width options. Tuning machine hole size options. Customer-specified control knob and input jack locations. All I need are these and the rest is just a matter of DIYing.

Thanks for the reply, both your specs are within my capabilities. I sent you guys a PM, :D

Shredcow: just realised I've seen Oni some years ago, just forgot about it, cool guitars hehe but I think they're quite expensive yea?

I ordered a fanned fret 8, H-H, with an LP style control layout... with some mahogany-like woods and stuff.

It's not going to be a metal machine but more of a tone monster in a rock sense. I hope to play some nice solo guitar stuff with it.

Yes, it is expensive but judging from the works I've seen (Oni did 2 carbon fibre gtrs so far, mindblowing) - Oni is top notch. Just really slow.

hehe all the top end luthiers are slow, like Blackmachine also I heard takes nearly a year to get from waiting list to purchase.

Hope that doesn't happen to me.

Fanned fret 8 o.0, care to share the price?

Hmm nothing too aggressive on my part.
Like a strat/tele/paul lookalike with one or two extra strings, maybe extended range. nothing aesthetically changed except for the pickups and neck i guess. I'd like the body and pickguard etc to be the same. Kinda like bro ShredCow's guitar. Can't seem to find those except on custom orders. And it's way more expensive to order from overseas.

hmmm tried a 7 string once but the neck just feels too diff from a 6 string. prob if a 7string neck can feel similar to a 6 string then its easier for me to adapt. but usually i'd stick to 6 strings, standard tremolo, hss, 24 frets and bolt on with good access to higher frets. the block heel on my strat is a hindrance (though not half as bad as a lespaul)

@bf will you want a neck thru guitar? I could make a 7 string neck really nice, but it'd not feel the same as a 6, the extra neck wood will add to the tone though.

If not, a 6 string sounds feasible.

Edit:
Sub, will get back to you on the details!

nope...very skeptical about neck throughs and set throughs. they have awesome access to the high registers but almost every guitar i've come across has got some fret or neck issue. so i still prefer the option of changing necks lol
