Compressors

Hi All,

As far as I know, they are supposed to "even" or "iron" out the sound right? So loud frequencies will be softened and soft frequencies will be amplfied.

Will this lead to a loss of picking dynamics? and feel as a whole?

go easy on the compression setting and it wont kill off the dynamics entirely.

If not, look for compressor with a blend parameter to mix the dry signal with the compressed tone to get the best of both world. An example is barber electronic, tone press...

Ya, just go easy and the key phrase would be "adding punch" more than "loss of dynamics".

Goose's Citrus for light, unobstructive compression!!!! TRANSPARENT!!! Whatever that means in a compressor! :D

Most people tend to use far more compression than they should. Compressors should be set so its still rather transparent... unless you're going for a particular effect. So don't squash your sound till its lifeless.

And yeah, I second the barber tone press
