ALL AGES SHOW! NO DRUGS! NO VIOLENCE! NO TOUGH GUY BULLSHIT! JUST GOOD CLEAN FUN!!!

whats up with the lime magazine shit sia.... this is lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove hardcore, we dont need lime magazine!!

how the hell is $55 for a hardcore show cheap? hardcore is an alternative genre with alternative ideas. dont get me wrong i understand totally why the organizers put the prices as such (CBK are a 'commercial' band under a 'commercial' label hence 'commercial' fees) but if it becomes a norm that hardcore gets expensive then the cultural aspect of that genre is screwed because there is no 'alternative' to it anymore. i wont go into 1000 word essays about what is OK and what is not...i think the issue here is PERCEPTION.
How can $55 be expensive for a US band who has expenses like air-ticket, lodgings, food, basically touring and travel expenses. On top of that, got to cover rental of CC, and people responsible for organising this, should be compensated as well. And this band is working full time, they need to earn a profit to make living and support their families. Even at $55, considering I doubt there is gonna be a overly huge crowd, I highly doubt they can even profit. They are lucky if they break even.

How can we expect all our favourite foreign HC bands to ever come to Singapore, if we expect them perform charity for us all the time? Reality check, touring is expensive!

I also personally prefer shows to be at a club with a bar, because it makes it much more enjoyable and comfortable experience. Most hardcore shows overseas are held at bars or clubs. Hardcore doesn't mean it has to be uncomfortable and with crappy sound system. Prices are no difference from what we pay in Singapore anyway. In fact I had an opportunity to watch Nofx in perth, and then in Singapore as well, and it was $50Aussie to watch them in perth. I believe it was much cheaper to watch them in Singapore.

yeah man!
comeback kid.
i cant wait to see andrew.

why still complain about price tickets?
they made all the way here is good enough.
lets support!
i cant wait also, coz they will be performing in malaysia too!
jyeah! LETS GO!

=)

YEAH!!! just buy the damn ticket and go for the show!

and, i think their older singer is better than the current one. i prefer their older songs.

dude please read all words from me.

i am saying its not cheap YET at the same time i understand why. yes yes we all know about costs and touring is indeed expensive. it is understandable. We dont have to go into a lecture in economics. my issue is, when $55 for a hardcore show is considered cheap, no matter who plays, then it probably is a dangerous train of thought.

that said, flying bands in have always been a cool thing, however not many people are aware that the South East Asian scene is not as economically self-sustainable as the one in USA or Europe.

its good to see some foreign acts come by, in fact in the lesser known DIY circuit of things there have been almost 30 touring bands who have played in small 'underground' type shows for the past 2 years.

the only difference is, those shows can afford to be under-promoted and operate at a cheap cost (ie: within $10) because those bands come to SE Asia, treat it as a cheap holiday and play some shows. it is definitely a financial disaster, but with less formalities, these tours are usually a blast for anyone.

the 'lose-money' model of doing things is the only thing that seems to work these days. i would indeed love to see SE Asia emulate the scenes in the West financially, but that just wont happen. the consumer / entertainer ratio just isnt the same.

true most hardcore shows overseas are held at bars or clubs. my point is (though this may not have anything to do with this thread) why not any other venue? hardcore / punkrock / DIY ethics is all about appropriating. it could be held in a studio (studio shows are probably unique to South East Asia), an abandoned building or in this case, a Community Centre.

it will always be good to have bands like CBK come over, but remember hardcore doesnt just exist in the West. we have a great scene in SE Asia, while its OK to see these bands from abroad come over we must also never forget the localities!

sure hardcore can always do with a great sound system and, dare i say it, an overall 'professional' output. but if that becomes a mandate, then there is something wrong with hardcore, because thus it wouldnt be an "alternative" anymore, and by that i include the way in which music is appreciated, the ways we can participate in it and the costs that need to come with it.

it may not work for one, but it could mean the world to the other.

cheers and hope you all have a fun time at the show.

Ticket Pricing & Other Matters

After reading the last few posts the organizers need to clarify the ticket prices.

It has been selling at $35 (THIRTY FIVE) and not $55. Please read the show poster carefully.

If u are a student or NSF u get a further discount.

You pay $55 only at the door, on the day of the show.

We actually hope not to sell any $55 tickets and are trying very hard to make the tickets as affordable as possible bearing in mind the high cost of organizing an event in Singapore.

We did a small Miles Away show last Monday (17 Mar) and asked people to pay what they felt like just so we can partially cover the costs of renting the venue.

Comeback Kid actually did ask how much we will be charging and whether kids can afford the tickets as a pre-condition to them playing in Singapore.

The +VE65 initiative has organized many gigs and is made up of members from the local & overseas music scenes. Most of our shows don't make money (infact none so far ever did) because we always charge the minimum to just cover our costs, if we are lucky.

Its only the hardwork and belief that what we are doing will have a longer term more positive impact on the local (and regional) music scene that motivates all of us. Another reason why we charge so little is because we want to spread the music to as many people as possible and let as many fans enjoy the music we all love.

To get an internationally recognized band like Comeback Kid (and Miles Away) to play in Singapore can only raise the profile of local bands & music. Ultimately we want to focus on the positive aspects of each and every show, band and event that +VE65 does.

CBK tickets will be on sale at the MARCH TO GLORY gig at the Substation tomorrow, SUNDAY 30 March.

Other local band merch will also be on sale.

Bring lottas of dough :)
