Colouring my alder body without covering the grain

people say then you believe lah? hahaha... you'll only know when you see alder. can be quite smooth like baby's butt.

but i want a beautiful guitar to be proud of because i did it myself..

yes bro dont we all...

1. U will encounter great hardship in removing a prepainted guitar as I had mentioned to U in a diffirent thread or via PM (cant remember). Best to get it done at a professional outlet. If you have never stripped a guitar of paint before (especially using paint remover) be warned. It's messy, not easy & results are not always as we like it to be.

2. If you decide against paint remover & wanna hand sand - it will take FOREVER to do..... if the previous stain / paint is embedded in the wood - cha lat liao.... it will nver 100% come out.

3. Very seldom our 1st project turns out "SWEE" so hence I say - It's a learning expirience bro.

4. Dont forget to enjoy yourself while you're doing it - if you dont - it becomes a chore....

Good luck buddy - do post pix when its done ya?

I don't use wood filler cos either I don't know how to use them properly or I just can't get one to fill up pores nicely and dye/stain evenly for transparent coats. For solid colour, anyhow whack also can fill up pores.

so the open pores don't affect anything la?

but paint remover will get most paint out right? then just sand?

i think i think that its too easy... :(

and don't worry!! i'm sssuuupper excited about this project

affect what? of course it'll affect something which is all stated above. its up to you how you wanna do it and how much pain can you endure.

you won't be able to get a yes/no answer from me if that is what you want cos there are many ways to get the job done, I only know what I know. Who knows my good friends here who are doing finishing themselves are laughing at this sick old boy for doing things the stupid way. ;)

maybe i should get it done professionally...but then again, i want the experience...then again, normally paint isn't sprayed into bare wood...

unfortunate first strat/ start yeah? haha..

ok, professionals to help me sand? probably not too far from serangoon...but then again i'll need to go to city music...so anyone around city music or serangoon that can help me get my guitar body sanded? how much will it cost?

but what will happen if i don't close up the pores when it needs to be closed up? just uneven finish?

hey...edder, you know on ibanez wiz necks, they have this very very smooth finish...how do i get that kind of finish?

hey guys..you get those kind of smooth, non- glossy kinds of finishes on guitar necks by applying wood right? will the oil actually protect the wood? will it make the neck water proof? the wood is maple by the way...

and, is there a faster way to remove poly other than sanding?
