where did you see these prices?

Go here http://www.ceriatone.com

Hey man

Visited their site - very interesting - thanks for sharing.

I didn't see the 100W plexi under the 'complete amps' section.

The 18W head looks like quite good value.

You also got to factor in the shipping from US.
<EDITED BY VERN>
They have a shipping table - for a 7.5KG is only 16USD, so reasonable.
</END EDIT>

One thing that isn't clear is the origin of all the parts. What it looks like to me is Ceria reproducing the old amp circuits from schematics using alternate components. I doubt very much these are the same sourced components that Marshall UK or Fender are using in their reissues.

Still would be very interested to know if anyone goes through and gets one.

I didn't see any combo there but I think the assembled product is just the chasis.

I doubt you really need a head assembly unless you plan to transport the unit frequently.

Hence, u need just a cabinet (or speaker emulator) to complete the setup.

OK i will spill the beans

I ordered an amp from them and its well made.Check out the AX84 Hi Octane. i tried to assemble it myself but burnt the transformer now i am getting my expat friend to assemble it for me at a small fee.

There are no combos so i had to get a used cabinet to play the amp on. Now I am in the process of refurbishing the cab.

Will try to post pics when i have finished building.

You can tell them to build the amp for you at an additional cost of US$70.

Parts wise you have to specify to them. My huge electrolyte caps are made in malaysia but you can tell them which caps(usa) you want.

I did much reading before i bought the package so i roughly knew what was going on.

The only major qualm i have is that speakers (drivers actually) are difficult to find in singapore(Jensens and Celestions)

Anyone know where i can find them?

Yes...yes... a fine DIY attempt. But the result is normally predictable, when constructed by amatuer diy'ster.

The result could be like the above mentioned, major short of major component, costly damage. Or the project works but not to expectation. Or the works somewhat, then blows easily. Or at best works with some minor glitches.

Let me remind everyone that, to undertake such a project, you must be more than an amatuer. Even for me who dabble in electronics circuit almost every day, I will tell you that I will make mistakes doing it first time too. Just little chance of fatal mistake only.

It's just even not remotely as simple as installing the motherboard and components of a PC to make it work. Which I see plenty of disaster cases too.

Kits maker and sellers will make it sound simple, just because they want you to buy their kit. They will not ask you in depth if you are skilled enough.

Good luck.

will go home and post more DIY tube amp sites for you guys.Stay tuned

Good thread. Good to see someone trying to bring cheaper tube amps into the market.

Now, all we need is a cabinet maker & speaker distributor. :D :D

Just dropped by the site. Yeah, very comprehensive in detailing website on their kits.

Just a note, the prices seems cheap, is because the bare kits are only the main circuit board stuff only.

Complete parts kit are priced as expected. Again, I must say that, anyone who is even thinking of getting the DIY kit, should have good electronics skill. And is activing using soldering iron every week. Else, better get the complete kit or get an amp man to do it for you.

Haha... remember I once told you that we should explore where is a good source for branded speakers??

How's things bro, wanna meet up to brainstorm abit???

Found this distributor on the celestion site

Anyone care to follow up?

As for cabs i know there`s a shop at burlington square selling tubes and custonm cabs. Martin Electronics

They are only interested to provide for HIFI buffs, not really keen to do guitar amps stuff. The elderly couple runs the place.

there`s a young lady there told me that they sell Legend speakers but they are very costly.try speaking with her instead

interesting stuff u have here Timex. Just wondering, (forgive me i'm pretty noob to this) can you build the schematics out and then use it like you would a guitar pedal? or any way to use it and "override" the default amp overdrive/distortion that you use in a gig?

For the pedals , you can follow the schematics to build out a pedal. However there are lots of faulty schematics out there. One guy wrote that we should buy the pedals made by Boss cause they are complex but relatively cheap.

As for the second part of your question, I guess you can use he pedal o generate distortion on your amp while its in clean mode.Me alsonewbie so lets wait for someone more knowledgable to confirm :)

heh. boss pedals are truly complex most of the time. but well not all boss pedals sound good/the good pedals have been discontinued.

Well i'm still a little confused.. u mean the amp schematics can be used to make a guitar pedal right? pardon my awesome noobieness.

If you put the same circuit of a certain amp 'LEAD CHANNEL' into a pedal, can be done.

But you plug this to another amp, you will never get the same exact sound as that amp you took the circuit from. Maybe just the characteristics, not the sound.

A bit dumb IMO, cause most effect pedals will cover your gigging needs already.
