Christian/Catholic rockers come in!

In case you missed out, FIREHOUSE was also a so-called christian band. but they only declared it when they released "good accoustics" album, which contains the opening "hym" You are my religion. :)

plumb is nice, their older albums are nicer, later stuff doesn't sound that good. but yeah! jars of clay and switchfoot is so good.. so what exactly is christian music? singing about jesus and all that? i remember evanescence was topping the christian charts once. that was weird... heck.

christian songs is not about music. it's about the lyrics and who u are singing it to. i guess those christian bands in the secular world have a motive.. which is to evangelise and bring secular rockers back to God!
heard P.O.D? :D

One of the oldest Christian rock bands around....Petra...since 1974.
The lineup has gone through many changes but one of the founder is still around....Bob Hartman, guitarist and songwriter. In fact, he has his own line of custom-made guitars. Their best years and lineup, IMHO, is from 1979 to 1985, with Greg Volz as their lead vocalist.

Nowadays Christian rock is quite the in-thing and can be found in both Christian and secular music shops. I even found WOW Worship CDs at Sembawang and Gramophone, and Power 98 was giving out Third Day CDs as prizes just recently.

United Live's latest CD 'Look at You' is just out too.

the \m/ --> actually means horns , not just metal. kinda the wrong place to show that :p

hmm ... i love christian rock ! any really famous local ones ?

Speaking of Christian rock...

Anybody head of a genre known as Christcore? It's like christian music done in a hardcore way. Very ironic lol.

I read somewhere that As I Lay Dying claims to be a Christian Metal Band. ANybody know anything about that?

sorries! my bad.
u might want to check out sonicfest bands. they have some cool stuff there. if IIRC, vertical rush is inside? i heard them. not bad.
other than that, i've heard some youth bands like emmanuel AOG, cornerstone and calvary AOG.. they're good. :) u can check out my church youth band too.. hahaha!

One of favourite Christian bands is Iona... they play in a very melodic progressive rock style and have an awesome guitarist and an awesome band too! Check them out man! I think the best introduction to them is their live album "Heaven's Bright Sun"... based on this album, I went to get all their albums... crazy right? Hopefully, will introduce this cool band to you all out there...

Yes! Recommend me some old school christian rock bands. Emo punk not really my type. :D

1) Ressurection Band's last album "Lament" is awesome!

2) Petra's "Unseen Power", "More Power to Ya" and " Beyond Belief" are must-haves!!

3) The Choir "Flap your wings" just look at who is in the band would make u want to buy this band's album! This album is only $10 at Trumpet Praise!!!

4) Stryper - they have a best of album out recently. Made me want to grow my hair again

5) Tourniquet - if u dun like thrash metal, check out the more "singing" album in "Vanishing Lessons". Ted Kirckpatrick is one of the best drummer on planet drums!

6) Newsboys - the only reason I started listening to them is because they collaborated with Steve Taylor, one of the best song writers in Christian music

7) Larry Norman - He is a pioneer of "Jesus" rock and roll. Sadly his CDs are only available in his website www.larrynorman.com. He is like dylan. Very influential, if not for poor distribution of his CDs. This guy's live album is something you might want to dig. I have two of them. It's really really one of a kind! Though much of what he plays is blues, but when he strap a guitar and sing those songs. it really made u listen. It also inspires me to play guitar like him too.

8) Keith Green - This guy is so firey! Not only his passion for Christ and the gospel but also in his piano playing. He sings and play the piano while recording (just like Ray!), coz the producer thinks it brings out the power and energy in his playing and voice. Most important of all, this man's passion for God is just so infectious! U cannot not be affected by his life and his message. Some people call him a "prophet" because of the messages he preached. Died in 1982 at the age of 28.

9)Guardian - I only bought the CDs which were produced by Steve Taylor.

10) Holy Soldier - forget their 3rd CD "promise man" the must have is the debut album!!! Buy the live album "encore" if u want a taste of both old and new.

11) Neal Morse- Former lead singer/ keyboardist and multi instrumentalist of proigressive giant "Spock's Beard". He began a Christian and record a double album entitled "Testimony" which recieved great reviews even despite it's spiritual theme. The drummer for this album is his friend Mike Portnoy of Dream Theatre! Wah!!! Cannot take it ah! Must buy!!!

If u really want to check out hardcore, metal, emo, punk stuff, u have to try:
Mortification (old-skool Metal)
Living Sacrifice (Hardcore/Metal, the must-hvae-album is "REBORN" )
Zao (Hardcore/Metal, the must-have album is "All Else Fails", it's a worship album!!)
Further Seems Forever (Emo)
NIV, aka No Innocent Victims (Hardcore)
Comeback Kid (Hardcore)
Figure Four (Hardcore, with a very cool chick on guitar!!)
Hopesfall (Hardcore)
POD (esp the early more in-your-face-with-the-gospel-stuff!)

How about local band??

Recluse
Vertical Rush
Surreal
Sky in Euphoria (Hardcore)

I saw this local Catholic band called Sonic Edge perform at Novena Church 2 years ago...

They are not a catholic band. Most of them are evangelicals. Sonic Edge is based in Church of our Saviour. Anyway, does that bother any of ya?

I'm cool, after all JESUS is the only WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE.

Yeah Baby!

Yes, As I Lay Dying is a Christian band. Their first album is ferrocious!! It's so good! What's more is that they are signed to a secular label "Metal Blade Records".

Christian-themed hardcore has been arounf for a long time since the late 80s with One Bad Pig and The Crucified. Today, we have a lot of bands under labels such as "Solid State Records" (part of Tooth and Nail) and "Facedown Records" . SOme of them have crossed over to Victory records too! It's pretty amazing!
