hey guys, im currently looking into 2 telecasters and i can't decide. one of which is the fender telecaster standard MIM. the other is squier classic vibe 50's telecaster.

i haven't tried the squier 50's telecaster but i heard many good reviews and clips of it and it sounded great. however, i've tried the mim standard telecaster and it felt awesome.

help... anyone with these guitars mind sharing your views?

I tried a mim tele before and I find that it has surprising good tone but then compare to a CIJ tele, it lacks a certain feel and sparkle in the tone. For the squire I tried, their build quality are kind of lacking. Especially the neck have uneven frets. Best if u could try and compare both guitar.

Hey, I haven't tried the Classic Vibe personally yet because its not available in Singapore. However, the guys at tdpri have been raving about it since its release. One advantage of the Squier is definitely the lacquered maple neck (personal preference though, some don't like it). I've tried a few MIM Teles before and they just felt rather lacklustre in terms of tone and feel. Get a Classic Vibe, drop in pickups of your choice, get a good setup and some callaham parts and you will be good to go.

The thing that really seals the deal for me is the 50s blackguard aesthetics!

meaning it has a glossy neck ya? i really dig the black pickguard and the pine wood body. hhaha. freaking sweet but like there's no way i can try the guitar unless i buy it. very hard to decide.

when you say lacquered maple neck, your saying its glossed? unlike the MIM standard telecaster where the neck is non-glossy?

IMHO, the build quality of squiers do not match up to fenders. ive got my first guitar, a squier affinity strat, that plays fine after i totally revamped it. I would gig with it too. but my fender strat, the workmanship is miles ahead. the MIM guitars are great value. Jump on it!

thanks james! haha, will take your comment to consideration when i make my purchase!

however, i feel that i'd rather spend on a higher end squier with the vintage aesthetics compared to a low end MIM fender though i REALLY REALLY dig the non-gloss neck. hint, **sweaty palms**

Hey, the Classic Vibe does have a glossy maple neck.

If I had sweaty palms, I would opt for the glossy finish because it would mean I just have to wipe off the finish, as opposed to having all my sweat soak into the wood. You could always keep a hand towel nearby to wipe off after every song :D

put in new pickups and she will sing! squiers are okay if you get to choose one that feels the best. take a good look at both the guitars you wanna get and get the one that feels 'right'. good luck.

alot of ppl use the glossy neck thing as in excuse for playing inability, to me its just a matter of getting used to.....if you want to limit yourself to non-glossy necks, you'll be limiting yourself to not playing alot of guitars...like the higher end les pauls.

Squier has just up the ante by introducing the Classic Vibe series, which feature the above Tele. my advice: hold on till this one makes it here 8-)

Nice! I'm wondering at the moment, which budget Tele has the best body, in terms of build and sound..
I intend to change the pups, electronics, and neck..

Got the Stagg, this Squier, not sure what else to look for..

Isnt the stagg guitars the ones they sell at maestro at esplanade?

Indeed.. I managed to try ONE uber good piece of their tele.. A serious gem among the thorns.. Tried 4.. 2 were stellar, 1 was good, 1 was amazingly amazingly superb! I almost didn't buy my Gibbie, which is apparently the best guitar I've tried.. These 2 were in the same league man..

At any Maestro/Zen outlet also have lah..

oh by the way. i called adam from sweelee, he says the classic vibe is only a special order piece. so they dont stock it up in their store. that makes it hard to compare between the fender standard and the classic vibe tele.
