Hi guys i guess im quite new on the scene, i've been reading alot of the post. You guys are talking so much about anything under the sun..... but am i mistaken that i dont see any post or discussions about canto or mando pop Music? or is it im at the wrong site?
there's a lot of people who mainly play rock over here, probably because of the fact we all play some form of instrument that is usually associated to rock. although guitars and keys and drums are also used in pop, meh. people associate them to rock
I never like the present day Mando pop. All the songs sound too alike for me, and they are mostly soapy boring ballads. If they are fast number songs, chances they are Mandarin cover versions of popular English pop songs. Maybe it's also due to the many many years of force-fed Speak Mandarin propaganda (er...campaign) that became so detestable.
But I like Canto pop of the 70's and early 80's. These retro classics sounds very cool nowadays, especially the upbeat ones. The likes of The Wynners (Alan Tam, Kenny Bee), Sally Yeh, Roman Tam, Samuel Hui, Paula Tsui, Danny Chan, etc.........
i think growing up in a chinese speaking environment i grew up listening to chinese stuff.... to me heavy metal and some rock music i really cannot understand.....haha but i do like jazzy or R&B stuff........ can a five piece band do R&B?? Any body forming canto band around here??
well hydrofly, hear beyond, most are politically critical songs about the plight of the less fortunate.. sad that before their international career took off, their lead singer died, from a fall at a stupid Japanese game show
