yes definitely it's very possible,
you can creatively change the song towards your style of playing and then it'll sound the way you want it to,
it's not necessary to sound exactly like the song, well for muse-starlight, maybe for starters i would just recommend the rhythm guitarist play along with the bass with power chords
hope it helps man (:

more instruments = less space.

your players need to know how to fill up each other's space. it's not about whether 3 piece or 5 piece or 10 piece. as long there is a link and communication in the music anything is possible.

anyhows, a 5-piece band should do a better rendition of a 3-piece band music because you have 2 extra instruments to play around with to give the music a greater harmonic structure.

yep.

the most basic thing to do when you have two guitarists playing one guitarist's part, is to have one guitarist playing the chords in the background. This gives you a "safety net", so that if the other guitarist or bassist makes a mistake, you don't get lost so easily and you come back to the song easier. It's easier for the vocalist to stay in key too.

As you get more proficient as musicians and you figure out how you can play around, you can have dual leads, or both play the same thing at times to give more meat (usually during choruses).

For example since you're playing Starlight, you can have one guitarist figure out and play the keyboard part.

Now the real challenge is playing 5 piece bands' work as a 3 piece! :D

Don't fall into the trap of unnecessarily making 2 people play the exact same line at any one time... It just messes things up...

Absolutely agree with Mandric. There's a need to watch for "space". Mature musicians listen to one another and knows when to play and when to play less (or at other times, not playing at all). Too many musicians (esp those who wants to show off their skills) will create rojak.

2nd guitarist can go for smoke break for this song? ;-)
apalah bro... first gudang garam blue, now smoke break....

but anyway, you are a MUSICIAN, make it work! when you cover songs, you can't expect to copy them note for note... a little bit of creativity and improvisation will go a long way

from one muse lover to another.....

yeah, shinobi's right. now that u have more players, you have an added dimension to your band's cover. add additional guitar solos or vocal harmonies, ANYTHING you know that make your band differ from muse...
