i am a left-handed guitar player. All along i have been playing a right-handed acoustic guitar, and i'm rather used to that already.

However, now i'm thinking of playing the electric guitar, but i don't know if i can go play well if i continue to use a right-handed guitar. So should i carry on using my right hand to strum and pick or should i re-learn guitar with my left hand, considering that playing the electric would require more intensive picking skill.

yeah u can
i have a friend hus left handed but shreds on the right hand
so does many artist like herman li and james root

I know a few people who are lefties but play with a righty's guitar. One of which is Niteblade on soft.:)
I say, if you're used to playing with a right handed guitar, then stick with it. Unless you feel very uncomfortable with that style.

bro i suggest sticking with right-handed guitar..

it will take a looooooong time to re-learn with left-handed guitar..

trust me, i tried. but now sticking to right-handed guitar.

dude gary moore is a left-handed but he plays the right-handed guitar really well and i mean really really well.

check him out on youtube.

Jimmy Hendrix!!!! I wish I am left handed, and play a right hand guitar. Maybe I should get a left hand guitar and start re learning, not good at all with the right handed anyway. hahahaha

oh cool. Thks for the constructive replies...

So in this case i would stick to using a right-handed guitar. But will there be any areas that i will have difficulty learning when i start on electric guit?

Actually hendrix usually turns his guitar around. So he is picking with his left hand, rather than his right.

He can of course do both, but most of the time he plays his guitar left handed.

I have the impression from the thread starter that that is what he plans to do with his electric as well ie turning the guitar around and re-stringing it the other way.

Then again I could be wrong...

that got me thinking too.

play a flipped over right handed guitar to accomodate your left hand or play a right handed guitar despite being a left handed?

I think he means to play right handed.

Flipping it over will mean too much re-learning. Picking technique and fingering.

I have a friend who tried, he gave up saying its too difficult to re-learn everything. So he just plays righty.

maybe u shud think long term. ure still young, then think whether u WANT to stick or change. it's ur want, not in case of easy or not. my opinion of course.

Re-reading the threadstarter's post gave me a clearer picture. I would say do it the way you play the acoustic, heh.

Of course, if you wanna experiment you can switch strings around and play it flipped over and see whether you would be more comfortable with that method :D
