Dear all SG Standard owners, please kindly give some reviews on this guitar if any of you all owns it?? Greatly appreciate any advice. Reviews stuff like, pickup, neck feel, weight, heaviness of the neck, etc.

Thank you :)

It really depends on the individual guitar per se. When I purchased mine I tried 7 different Gibson SG Standards from various places before I settled on mine.

It's the perfect guitar for me. In terms of neckdive the SG Standard doesn't have it compared to, say the '61 reissue (or the Epiphone G-400 counterpart).
For weight it is a relatively light guitar, pickups sound good but this is still subjective in terms of what kind of music you intend to play it with.

My advice is to head down to local guitar shops to give it a try. Something interesting is that SV guitars have the SG Classic which was highly praised when it was in production. Also another advice is to get pre-2000 Gibsons; the sound and feel when I tried those 7 SG Standards were not much better than my old Epiphone G-400 (which was a very good guitar, again handpicked from me) until I got to my current '94 Standard. That one was in a differently league. (Again, each individual guitar is different. So you can still find gems in post-2000 models, just that the possibility of finding sub-par or 'lemons' is higher; likewise you can find 'lemons' in pre-2000 models.)

Thank you for your reply bro. But those earlier models are pretty hard to find and even have the existing condition is a worry to me though. I only can compare via reviews I seen online and it seems that the standards has the best ratings. Haha, as also I haven't hard Any friends who owns 1 therefore unable to give it a try myself.

Was seriously considering to get a SG standard and planning to play purely rock \m/ only for it ;).

Take a look at the SG Classic mentioned. Being a SG enthusiast I will say that the pre-2000 models are worth the dough.

head down to a store, see which models are within your budget and try them out. if say a custom shop Gibson SG sounds better than all the other Gibson SGs in the shop, are you going to save up for that custom shop model? next question would be, would you spend $5k on a single guitar at this point in time?

The price difference plays a part in the selection process IMO. to me between the standard and the special, it's like "is it worth to top up that difference for that kind of sound?" .

I got my SG standard, and I upgraded the pickups to Bare Knucle Pickups (Warpigs) and damn! The soudn that comes outta it is remarkable! I really love the punchy sound the SG produces due to it's slim profile! It's great for rock and roll with high overdrive, as the punchiness will come in very very handy! The weight is great too! Another thing about the SG is that the red will turn darker as it ages, which is really beautiful! Also, the Standard models will retain it's value better than say, a Special or a Faded model. So yea, it's up to you, but the SG standard will last you longer than you think. The neck is very fast, and reaching the high frets is obviously no problem. You can really SHRED on this guitar! <3 the neck!
