hey people

i have this problem with my strat..
when i plug it into the amp, it will produce buzzing sounds
which is super annoying..
i can only turn it off by lowering the tone or the volume down..
i set my tones according to 70s rock..through a boss gt8..
its not heavy at all..how come do i have these buzzings?
an old guitarist told me to spray my pots, cuz perhaps
they're too old already..
my strat is a 1978 strat,btw..
if the spray is required, where do i get it?
link me to a video or something..

thanks..

Could be the possible reasons,

Amp not grounded

Guitar's uses single coil pickups where the 60 cycle hum or something will occur when using distortions.

You did not turn on the noise gate?

Pots not grounded ( Try checking if the sound goes of if u touch any metal part of the guitar)

Not sure what spray is needed though...

1) If your strat is with sss configuration and not using hum cancelling pickup, there will be hum/buzz. Thats the characteristic of traditional single coil pickup. It will be present even when clean(turn up the volume of amp and hear it). When using distortion, the hum seem to be louder coz the effect of distortion is multiplying/increasing the gain of the clean sound many several time. So not only the clean signal is being processed, the hum(original present) will be processed as well, thus making it louder

2) If the pickups, pots and wiring are all stock from 78, get them checked, replaced, clean up and shield it, to reduce the noise present(you cant totally get rid of the hum if still using single coil pickup thats not hum cancelling. All the cleaning, pots replacement etc, will only minimised what ever noise there can be, to a smaller extent)

3) Like someone else mentioned, check adaptor for the amp, if its 2 pins one, changed it to 3 pins one

4) The lowering of the tone pot is filtering away the frequency of the hum, thus making it seem like reducing the hum

5) The spray mentioned, is known as contact cleaner. It wont magically solve the problem(coz the hum is most likely due to the pickup characteristic, grounding issues etc). Its a cleaning solution to remove dust, dirt from contact points etc.
