Hi all! I've been busking (street performance) for few months now. Although i busk less often nowadays as i'm currently also teaching in a guitar studio, but i still consider myself an experienced busker.
On a good day, i collect more than $150 in less than 6 hours of playing.
There are bad days of course. But if you play for at least 6 hours, you should be able to earn $100.
Here are some good tips for you:
1. Get a busker license from NAC (you never know when you'll need it)
2. Sound system. Good amplification won't cost much. Get one battery opperated or rechargeable. can get it as low as $150. You can earn it back in first two days.
3. Location. You will crack our brain on where to go at first but neighbourhood MRT can be much better than orchard rd (earnings)
4. Practise sufficiently. Play good music.
5. Simple and nice repertoire will do. You can prepare a few very techniquely demanding pieces as your show piece but people dun want to know how good you are. They give you money because you play something they like.
6. Dress simple but presentable. You look weird to play on the streets with shirt and tie. And dun dress like a begger because you are not.
7. Mental preparation. Be prepared to be treated like a begger. Some authorites will chase you away if you are having your performances in places not specified by National Arts Council.
