buffing?

hi there i've recently got a chip on my guitar, so i covered it with a layer of paint, followed by a layer of polysterene..The chip is completely covered but the problem is that the surface is uneven..there seems to be a little bump on the repaired chip due to the extra polysterene applied..will buffing do the job to even the surface?

I think you can just smoothen it with extra-fine sandpaper. work patiently on the surface so you don't sand off the actual surface.

polysterene? say what?
be careful if using a motorized buffer or the like, its easy to literally melt through your finish if you dont know what you're doing. this happens even with normal nitro/poly finishes, i'd hate to think what would happen with a DIY refinish spot. would probably just smear all over the place.

in any case, wait a couple of weeks for the paint to cure fully before even trying to buff/sand it. especially in singapore humidity and temperatures.

i agree.. just use fine sandpaper or fine grade steel wool... slowly sand it down until its even and buff it by hand..

do rmb to sand down in the direction of the grain so it will look more natural. Also do a forum search on repairing dings i kinda did a short guide to how i buffed my diy fix back to factory shine.
