Budget Bass

im helping my friend get a budget bass, but i don know much, what would u suggest for below 200$? If electric, wads the cheapest bass amp i can find out there?.. thx

Rentabass! ... yeah man .. J&Ds are nice ... i think if you get them and change out the electronics it'll sound really nice ... like put in some SDs or Barts ...

their build quality isnt that fantastic la. but good enuff for that price range.. i really wonder if the wood can acentuate the sound of the barts too.

J&Ds do sound pretty decent. In fact, they sound bloody good for the price you pay for them, man! My only gripe is the fact that they sound so.....sterile. They're very articulate sounding, with very musical sounding highs, but I don't really like the mids. I would prefer something more transparent sounding.

Z3r0_G, I suppose you're right about the build quality, but I didn't really take notice....my problem is that I try guitars without looking at build quality. I'm all into the sound....must be because I'm a big user of second hand, beat up basses......

I haven't tried SXs yet, but I find the real bang-for-buck basses are the old Tokais. The build quality was decent, and they sounded pretty damned good!

As for the Craftsman, I tried some, and I find that they sound very unnatural....not transparent enough. They're probably good basses to begin with, but a player may soon get frustrated with the sound as he or she gets better. They serve more as interrim basses.

Better to invest in a decent one like OLPs or J&Ds, which can serve a player for longer. Oh yes, SOME of the Squiers are decent, as are some of the Corts as well. Don't rule out anything.

I am going to buy this one within the month.

what do you guys think of the J&D S5B ? i'm thinking of getting the 5-string one, but i also know that bad b strings are as good as no b strings. what are y'all take on this?

Don't know which model that is, but I do remember that the B string was pretty tight on the six string that I tried the last time....the five string shouldn't be that much different.

even though i have to admit that i would love to settle for a decent American Std Fender, as a student, i would have no way of having that much money sitting around to be spent on a bass. what do you guys think of SX basses? i'm really contemplating the idea of a 5string fender jazz copy from them.

..

yo

you can try out the bass first. if you like it, then quickly grab it. :)

if you're really looking for a fender, why don't you try the Mexican or Jap made ones first? US quality varies and for the price, IMHO, not really worth it.

From personal experience, I bought the J&D s5b (5 string model), and the RM-6 which Rentabass mentioned. Both have pretty tight B strings, but the RM-6's B-tension is higher, and it sounds more pleasing due to the pickup position mostly. My personal advice is, don't get the S5B hoping to play the B string often. I got rid of the bass shortly.

For $500-600. You might wanna look into OLP, Craftsman, Squire and probably used Yamahas. Fenders don't really exist in that price range first-hand as you might know. I highly recommend Yamaha.

i don't mean to differ frm the subject, but where can i sell my bass? i am short of cash to get that S4B. and i already tried cash converters. they said i needa be 18. and i dun want my mom to tag along. :(

been trying... 3 weeks on soft's ads and luther's ads and no reply. i wanna sell to 2nd hand shops etc.
