Budget 6 String Bass

Can someone recommend a budget 6 string bass? Need something cheap but of pretty decent quality? Location and rough price would be good.

Perhaps can let me know which brands to try out.

So far, the cheapest I've seen is a J&D six stringer at Ranking Sports down at Bras Basah Complex.

The pickup configuration is an MM style at the bridge and a J style in the neck. Can't really remember the control layout, but I think there was bass and treble boost/cut, volume and blend.

The tone is decent, very active and clear sounding, though I personally would have preferred something a little more transparent, but that'll probably cost a lot more.

Tried the bass rentabass was talking about ... i was surprised by the tone ... really, but i found that the electronics killed the sound too much. Treble control is horrible IMO. But overall nice bass .. really ..

Overall, it's still a happening bass for the price, tho'.

i was so tempted to buy that bass and pull out the pickups and preamp! but i realised that hard to find MM 6-string pickups unless you go custom .. bleahs ... hahahahah .. so i scraped it .. =P

Ibanez basses are a killer man .. i'd get that bass and mod it upside down .. change pickups, change bridge .. change tuner .. change nut .. change electronics .. WOO HOO!! .. okay sorry .. =P
