hi gals and guys,

i'm on a business trip to aust this coming OCT for 10+ days.
I wish to bring along my guitar (in hardcase) along for practice.

Will there be any problem with the custom ? like pay more for additional luggage, need to declare.

can anyone who travel with his sword often pls share if there's anything i may need to take note of

thanks :)

yes.i do!evry school holiday.when i fly back to indo,i always bring along my guitar(electric) in a soft case.it is not meant to be stored as baggage.but as hand-carry.butdepending on the plane and the seats(economy,business..)u will have different treatment.cheers :D

dude, if you're gona check it in, in a hardcase that is, put lots of bubble wrap and stuff all the gaps with paper or newspaper. and rmb to ask them for the fragile sticker!

Hmm.

I suppose it's better you give the airline a call and heck if you can bring it onboard by hand, but allow the crew to stow it away for you. Then at least you can have more time to re-pack your guitar for the trip i.e. get a stronger case or pack it in a box with ALOT of stuffing.

Those baggage transfer guys are never gentle despite the *fragile* labels on the exterior. I have seen too many tragic cases to take risks.

i see!!!!

luckily i'm not bringing a good guitar over, it's just meant for practice

but i'll try to stuff it well

thanks :D

Dun put in the baggage bro...just hand carry it with u...I did it all the times...I always bring my strat in a soft case everytime I go back Jakarta...I'm quite lucky to have the luxury of taking the business class all the time...So i can just put my guitar in front of my seat...soetimes I can ask the stewardess to keep it for me also....I believe it's much safer than put it in the baggage with fragile tag on it...

One other option is to invest on some baby taylor or silent guitar:lol:

i recently brought a guitar from uk to singapore. i think it's very unadvisable to check guitars in because those guys tend to just hurl things around. i handcarried mine but i was travelling with my mom so i was able to place the guitar flat down, occupying the space in front of both our seats. if you place it that way it won't pose a hazard, which is what the crew will be most concerned with. if you're flying alone, i think it'll still be possible to handcarry, but maybe you'll have to do some explaining to the crew so they can facilitate things for you.

if its hardcase, just check in, my bro did just that when he flew back from america. even tho he took 2 airlines, its still in perfect condition.
if its softcase, just ask the stewardess to keep it for you, she will probably keep it in the closet where it's used for coats and stuff like that. but still very much depended on the airline. both above are SIA.

well, i often carry my guitars back from US to singapore. no issue there.
Just let the staff on the plane know before u enter the plane, they will stow ur guitar into one of the business class closets usually because that one is usually not used.

also loosen the strings b4 u fly.

HydeSg, i have no idea about jetstar, never flew with them before.
but im sure they have some sort of a closet space for u

i've brought electrics, acoustics overseas on tour before - we've tried hand-carrying and checking in as well. nowadays airlines are way more sticky about hand-carry so you really should check with the airline in advance. but failing which, if you've got a decent hardcase it should do the job of protecting your guitar.

have flown with gibson and SKB hardcases (the freedom series) and they really do protect the guitar well - especially from baggage handlers. i saw a valuair handler literally hurl my guitar onto the baggage cart once. that was damn traumatic. but after i retrieved my guitar from the belt, i checked it and it wasn't even out of tune. how's that for protection?

also have tried flying with and without loosening the strings. all i can say is... it really doesn't make a difference. but if you're really paranoid, loosen your strings a bit.

wa, thanks for the replies guys!

hmm... i still considering to bring my acoustic or electric there .... electric need to bring amp along, but acoustic hard case is gigantic compared to electric soft case ....

haha, anyway i think i'll hand carry it, hope the air steward wont fcuk me :D
