hi guys ive been wondering how come i cant see any boss turbo distortion nowadays..around 5 to 10 yrs back when im always active in jam..i always like to rent it at jamming studios cos i dont really buy pedals at that time..i find it sound better that normal boss distortion..after almost 5 yrs of of holiday from guitar now im back and im wonder y didnt get to see that pedal anymore..even at sweelee dont have it when i look for it..anybody know wat happened to the pedal??

ah, finally a Boss Pedal thread  .

dude, the turbo distortion ( or DS-2 ) that you've been using 10 years ago is probably one that is made in Japan. that DS-2 has balls, the current ones not really. the Japan DS-2 has more in your face distortion. it can even get feedback easily. that pedal is Kurt Cobain's favourite. I've sold mine to a lucky fella.

Swee Lee should have the current taiwan models. in fact, its available almost everywhere. it isnt discontinued yup :) .

1) Its more expensive than a DS1
2) DS1 is hyped up
3) DS1 is used by guitar heroes!

Don't think the DS2 would stand much of a chance no?

thanks relins for the info..ill try to look for it again...btw i dont know why i really prefer turbo distortion than distortion..maybe it becos of the fullness and power..hard to explain..lol..

ah Daniel, the Japan DS-2 is really brutal. think Nirvana man  .

in my opinion, the Japan DS-1s are more transparent. I think their purpose is mainly for boosting. the DS-2 however can be use as a stand alone distortion pedal. I used to own one and it blew the damn taiwan version far far away ( i still have the taiwan version cos its my bro's ). it just had the more in your face distortion.

DS-1 and DS-2 are 2 different things. both have their advantages. Creedmaniac, if you want to find the DS-2, make sure you are looking for the Japan made one. its quite hard to find but it would be worth it :D

yea thanks relin..ds2 is superb..u are rite its a stand alone pedal..i still remember few years back..i only use ds2 and dd6 for jam..nirvana days..and i do need back up from metalzone sometimes for metallica..in short i think boss pedal are the best...

hmmm, DS-2 isnt a Fuzz type pedal so I wouldnt know about that. in fact, I dont think that are many mod options for the DS-2. I think I've read somewhere on the Keeley site that he didnt want to do mods for a DS-2 cos the demand was too low. its been a while since I've last checked so I wouldnt know for sure now.

john fruciante uses DS-2 too

hi, relinquish69, i was that 'lucky fella' who got it at a lucky price , compared to all those mij ds1s.

the turbo mode is the reason to get the pedal. retains your pick attack very well.

hifi_killer

yeah I remember but you know, some people dont like their names to be mentioned. just some la hahaha.

I find the pedal super versatile when a foot switch is attached. both modes sound good to my ears :) . I'll miss that pedal one day hahah

I agree... they sound best when pushing a dirt pedal or dirty amp. Alone... nah... the eq stack, though more usable than the curent MIT, is still very limited.

relinquish69: I read from previous threads that you collect Boss pedals. U must have a huge collection. I just acquired a MIT DS2. quite compressed. Used it to boost my RP100A to my practice amp. played some metal riffs. Very tight soundings on it. (on mode II). I use (mode I) on my RP100A's Mesa Boogie MARK IIC simulation. Not as fat soundings, but it sounds quite nice for a lead tone.

Thought of giving it to Randolf to mod. But not sure what mod to do. Relinquish69, any recomendations?

haha my collection isnt huge. I just collect the rarer boss pedals. speaking of which, I havent update that MIJ DS-1 thread of mine. quite a new interesting facts to note  .

I have the current MIT DS-2 right now. basically it sounds bad. I use it cos I'm feeding it through another crappy amp. I dont think I'd be using my MIJ pedals until I find a nice tube amp to feed them into.

mode I is more for those kinda classic rock riffs. mode II to me sounds more compressed ( or tight sounding ) which is kinda more suitable for solos, in my opinion of course.

one interesting fact to note is that the MIJ DS-2 and the MIT DS-2 have similar PCBs. if you manage to borrow the MIJ DS-2 from hifi_killer, I'm sure Randolf can make it a sweet sounding pedal.

lucky you, I kept my own personal Boss pedal records.

its obvious which is loaded with mojo  .

i'm also wanting to mod my MIT. are there any mod to make mode 2 slightly clearer? mines sounding like a pile of dist when the distortion goes past a certain level

I really have no idea when it comes to modding pedals. I only know how to trace the lines and copy a pedal ( provided if I know the parts  ). I guess you might have to look for Randolf to check it out.

Yes....input cap value change >>> diode type and combo (just scraching the surface here) will give you a smoother action :D
