Blackstar Amps, Worthit??

Well its just my personal opinion and maybe it was the unit i tested at the store, but i couldnt even get a decent clean sound after 45 mins of sitting in the store with the store owner's help tweaking the SI45. The unit in question just sounded really thin and lacked depth. All kinds of excuses came out, like its the "speaker" used...oh please man, for a 2k plus amp blackstar cant even give a better speaker? I can score a mesa lone star new for cheaper (i got sources) and i remember the cleans on that was much better than the blackstar.

the Blackstar is a nice amp if you want a wide range of tones at your disposal i guess, but I dosent excel in any aspect honestly, which was a turn off for me. And once you've tried high gain amps like Diezel, Bogners and ENGLs....er....no comparison really.....

those amps dun really have a low wattage model :(

For the below $1000 tube range I've personally found the Blackstar HT-5 to have the best drive. If you get a full-stack I think it's really good value for money. However, if u're using pedals then u might want to consider other clean amps.

Amps I've compared it with are the Vox Night Train and Orange Tiny Terror Combo

For Metal I'd say the amp's drive barely meets it =)

Acceptable but could do with more gain

Its a jack-of-all-trades but excels at nothing in particular.. I'd rather pick up a Night Train compared to a Blackstar.. The Blackstars have big sounding crunch but a rather lacklustre clean section to accompany it.. Lacks 'dimension' if I may say so..

Well look at it this way... I think even the cleans on my Vox AC4 beat it by a mile....

Like what someone mentioned, yes tone is subjective. But this kind of things become hard to ignore once you've had the taste of much better stuff....

heh, its like

John love fried oyster, he loves those from kopitiam and always enjoy eating there

peter love big fat juicy osyter with tobasco sauce from restaurant

Both eat osyter, but peter find fried osyter from kopitiam cannot make it, but john still loves it, including big fat juicy osyter when he had the chance to try it out.

The main thing which connect, is that both enjoy the process of eating what they like and none is better, coz Peter is peter and john is john, john is not peter and peter is not john.

When a 3rd party, jack came by, saw whats happening and being uninformed, he might focus on fried osyter from kopitiam cannot make it, without seeing the actual context of how both enjoy the same thing done differently and that everyone is different.

imho

Well, you can’t really compare Mesa Boogie lonestar special and Blackstar S45. Lonestar retails at 2000 GBP and S45 is at 900 GBP in UK. Yes, mesa clean is a lot better than blackstar.

If you can get a brand new lonestar special for SGD 2000, I can order one now (230 watt version please). I will be in Singapore next week, so I can pick it up.

Well its a special deal with somebody I know from overseas and its only a special arrangement between me and him.

Oh and mine's in local voltage as well. Speaking of comparisons, maybe comparing the blackstar to the lonestar is a wee bit unfair since we'r talking price here...but.....then dont forget i mentioned the ac4 too...so wouldnt comparing it to the ac4 be the mother of all unfair comparisons? :)

ac4 comparison would be HT5 which is not famous for its clean ;)

Can you score a new Mesa Express 5:25 with inbuilt 230V transformer??? If so, CALL ME!

Having tried your AC4TV, I'd agree it's got great cleans.

i have been playing on blackstar s1-100 for the past 5 mths and imho this amp has given me some tone that i could never have with my marshall...... its true that i have been using it with a original 1976 marshall cab loaded with rola speakers .... maybe that makes a difference..... but believe me i have had some sweet tones from this baby....... and comparing it with hi-end boutique amps is not really an apple to apple comparison...... its is still a mass produced amp...... anyone who wants to try it can drop by to my studio when its convenient....... just drop me a pm

^I dont think the Mesa we'r talking about here is a high end boutique amp.

Marshall does make really crappy stuff nowadays....so I dont think its a fair comparison.
