bill lawrence pickup

ah, then you gotta try both and trust your ears. Dime seems like a straight up guy to me. whether he'd use one pickup and promote another like that, i dunno. but if he did, then they can't be too far off from each other.

Dime's sound probably has more to do with the Randall amps and his EQ than the pickup anyway. the body wood and mass will alter the tone as well. it's only one component of the overall sound. same for Nuno and his gear.

and well, unless you're a serious cover band, why try to nail a sound that's already been done? it's nice when you're just practicing their songs but your tastes will evolve over time anyway. i mean, Dime's sound is nothing like Ace Frehley or EVH right? find your own sound man :D

dime always used the BL500Xl on his personal axe.check the BL site. it shows him using it ,not the BL USA.

I own the BL500XL and imho plays veri important PART(no 1 gear is gonna get you anyone's tone) in nailing his tone(the fact tt i'm using a randall helps as well).

but the best part abt this pickup is it can do so much more den just dime's tone.(classical metal and rock, hard rock, modern metal, mayb blues?)

The dynamics is brillant. even at high gain you can hear every note clearly. and if you do get it , get the chrome covered 1.

Agreed, it is v hot, but not muddy..

Some ppl say the usa ones squeel... For me, i rather get it from the man himself, then the company that mass produce them. Its worth the waiting time.

But rem, its still a pup, dont expect it to do magic

Does Bill Lawrence make great pups? ...YES !!!

will Bill Lawrence make you a rock star? NO!!!

....so save your wind !!

btw the whole freakin world knows which is the real deal ....

maybe the u fellas need the 'Pick of Destiny' .....

So no one has actually tried both, and all comparisons are from internet reviews and forums?
Why don't you get em both and let us know which one is a superior product? Thanks in advance!
I've tried them both. I like the BL (not-USA) one better. Not sure how to describe - its less trebly. Think I may still have one BL-USA somewhere - can't remember the model, its a double blade hum. Let me know if you want, I can pass to you when we meet (if I can find it), and you can try for yourself and compare it with your not-USAs.

did you try the USA one flipped around? might help the treble issue.

jkz, thanks for the offer but i really won't waste any time with the BL-USA. Had a washburn nuno that came with the BL USA 500 type pickup. Squeels worst than my pet chicken during my childhood days and mind you that hen can squeel.

Installed quite a few BL NOT USA 500s and they're clear and i dare say unforgiving to the player. Tonally balanced and crystal clear, a trademark of BL not USA sound.

Oh and the dimebag thing.... wot happened to the ahem Seymour Duncan Dimebag deal? Straight up guy? We don't even know him.

gsonique: You've got your opinion, fair enough. As have I, and others - that's why its a discussion. What's with the patronising attitude?

SD still sells the Dimebucker.

yeah we don't know him personally but you can see what kind of guy he is from the home videos and how he talks to people, fans, friends. anyway it's my opinion of him so don't worry about it

yeah SD still produces Dimebuckers. never tried one so i cant comment on how they sound compared to the BLs

anyway Rory is right. Dime seems like a straight up guy man from the videos and interviews i've read/seen.

well i'm just wondering, if Dimebag is a straight up guy, why won't he use the ORIGINAL Bill Lawrence L500 from the source himself and rather uses a Seymour Duncan which is at best a copy.

Sorry dudes Dimebag is cool, my beef is only that why would SD even need to make a copy of the L500 and link it to Dimebag. Or Dimebag agreed to work with em for a $$$$ amount or SD offered Dimebag $$$$ or what???

Nah.... IMHO its nothing to do with whether Dimebag is straight up or not. IMHO.

Bill Lawrence still rocks.

if i'm not wrong dime only used the SD dimebucker in damageplan. he wanted to redefine his own tone and move away from the pantera tone he had. tt's y he swtiched 2 krank amps later on as well. the tone he uses in damageplan sounded nothign like the one in his pantera days.

i guess he think he wanted start anew and didnt want damageplan to be in the shadows of pantera. However , i got 2 agree with edder. His pantera tone using the BLs were much better . but tt's jus my ears :D

Sure, it's called endorsement. musicians have uncertain futures and bills to pay. any income stream is welcome. As long as the sound is in the ballpark, go for it. just like signature guitars, the low end floor models are mass produced in Korea or China. they're not gonna be as good as the one the artist is using, but it's in the ballpark.

also, when you have the money to buy gear and hire a good tech, it doesn't matter what you use. David Gilmour played an acoustic and it still sounded like his Strat. Jimmy Page recorded Led Zep albums on a Tele and played a Les Paul live, same sound. whether you put a BL, a BL-USA or an SD in Dime's guitar, i'm willing to bet he will still sound like Dime. for us mere mortals, we don't have such luxuries. that's why we have to have these endless discussions on forums about which works best with our limited gear :D

i think you spoke the most here buddy

the fact is those fellas who made good music kept it simple .. 8)

Led Zep used a full cranked champ for early recordings ... :smt112
