Hot debate in some forums...

According to Flying Dutchman and Glenn Ong from Morning Express, BEYONCE mocked us Singaporeans for our pathetic english, in her F1 concert interview.

As quoted "...although Singaporeans don't speak good english, I am glad that they sang along with me..."

AND

& i heard some news tht a Class 95 DJ isnt happy tht Beyoncé said to the audience something like "You sound beautiful even though you do not speak good english. . ."

* Quoted from some random blog.

:confused::confused::confused:

haha she's a bit blunt but it's the truth isn't it?

that's why i was surprised at the flak Ris Low got. her level of English is quite common among us.

Haha.. it's just like if you are a guy and you like uhmm.. guys, you don't want to openly admit it and will pretend to laugh with others.

Kekekekeke....

But yes, it is the truth, and it is hardly surprising. ;)

That is such a politically incorrect statement to make for a Diva lol

But i wouldn't be surprised if she was misquoted or just a rumour

she said that? SO MEANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN...

but ive never heard anyone speak like riz low before u know?

My mum and sister say its common amongst singaporeans. but i havent heard one...

yea from english speaking family and almost an all english speaking school.(excuse the scholars) lol.

To me, the worst english ive heard is your highness, RIZ LOW. haha.

My teacher also used the word "BOOMZ" today for english checking of scripts. HAH.

SHe said our ideas for compo cant be the usual story plot . it had to be "BOOMZ!"

Obviously everyone started laughing.. aiya.

i should reply beyonce i have quite a few friends who can dance the single ladies better than her! HAHA.

Hmm, she doesn't seem like the person to say that so she was maybe misquoted?

but, not all of us speak bad english....:)

she spoke the truth but she did it in a very gentle manner i would say.
if it was someone like kanye west, he'd probably insult our more than just our english.

Ya, he should have jumped up to the stage to Ris Low when they announced the winner of Miss Singapore Universe, instead of poor Taylor Swift.

I wonder how her fans will react to her statement.

I'm not a fan, whether i'm offended or not, i won't buy her albums, so it makes no difference. But what if you're a fan, will you continue to support her?

MrBig has tonnes of fans in Japan. Some may not even understand what's written in the songs, and they sang with their hearts during the concert. I don't hear MrBig making such hurting comments to the Japanese.

perhaps that explains why they have tons of fans in spite of their lyrics.

I wonder how many Singaporean men actually dig amazonian women with big ass thunder thighs like Beyonce's.

Maybe I should do a poll. How many of us Singaporean guys prefer women like Beyonce and how many prefer cute and petite women like say.. Maria Ozawa.

I think she was refering to Miss Ris Low. She probably caught her interview vid on RazorTV or YouTube...

Epic Boomz!

S'pore is a multi-culture society, we're one leg in the east, and another leg in the west. Her comment was not wisely made, whether it's done with a gentle tone or not. That's what happens when the artist is full of herself, and forgot where she was. Narrow-minded, and totally oblivious of the culture state she is speaking to.

maybe she thinks we're from china just because we're chinese..

If that's the case, then she needs a new pair of eyes cos evidently there are Malays, Indians, Eurasians, Caucasians everywhere in Singapore, not to mention in the audience when she was performing.

Or maybe you are right.

There are like 1 million of them Ah Tiongs in Singapore now, and lots of Americans don't really know their geography.

Maybe she thought she was performing in China and could get away with her comments because she thought we wouldn't even understand that.

Well, to certain extents she's correct about our English not being perfect. Fair enough, English may not be our native tongue (considering that we all use different languages for everyday communication) but still I think that remark about the English not being perfect wasn't really necessary. We Singaporeans should solve our own social problems - we don't need a non-Singaporean to point it out at all

i'd do em both! maria is hot until she starts moaning... *shudder*

it's pretty ironic considering that as a commonwealth country, we are schooled in queen's english, while beyonce uses americanised english.
