Beginner to electric guitar!

Hey. Just wanted to know you guys opinions. Want to learn electric guitar, budget around 600-700. Thinking about getting a Timbre Strat-copy and a Vox AD15/30VT amp to begin with. Will these be good?

What tany said. =)

You can probably also go for those beginner packages in guitar stores, but 1 word in advice, steer clear of any cheap (I'll say maybe <700 before any discounts?) guitars first-hand (as opposed to 2nd hand) with Floyd Rose (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Rose).

If there's a need to, feel free to call a softie or two or even several to go with you. =)

Cheers.

yeah what he said..
the strat has had many many many great comments..
so it is indeed worthwhile to spend more on amp at this point of time..

be informed that single coil equipped guitars generate excessive noise in use with a drive/ distortion unit. but if you don't mind at all, it's a great guitar to get :-)

Amp first, guitar second if you're not going to play to an audience ie. if you're going to be a bedroom player.

A crap guitar will sound nice on a good amp but the best guitar will sound crap through a crap amp.

This all changes if you're going to gig regularly because the gigging venues usually have good amps or a PA system + inhouse speakers so it would be logical to splurge on a better guitar to take advantage of the better amps provided.

The Timbre strat is a good guitar and the guys at standardvalue will help you out. I've nothing but praise for them having been there myself yesterday!

sub..strange enuff..the timbre i used to have..

even under intense drive..there was hardly any noise..maebe a lil bit..

but still surprisingly little.

Will the noise be that bad? Or just like a low backgroud noise? Anyway, to shaneypants - read from the reviews on this site that the Timbre strat really is very good for its price, would it really be a shame?

MTJR..

some things to bear in mind before u hop onto the timbre wagon.

the timbre may not have replacement parts..

they certainly cant use fender parts..neither can they use other strat copy parts..

when you get a timbre..at most..u can change pups and electronics and maebe the headstock tuners..

but the tremolo..i've tried..it isnt compatible..somehow..

Hmmm..thanks deathism. But seeing that its going to be my first guitar, i don't really expect to change anything. Keeping the stuff stock isnt to bad either right? Unless its like broken or something. What else is there you can change anyway, as in like entire fretboard or something?

whitestrat: its mostly the hole spacing...juz like how i wanted to change the trem..but the hole spacing was different..so shelved the whole "upgrade" project.

but well..have since sold it..

Will a noise gate built in on amps help reduce the noise? If i'm not wrong, the vox valvetronix ones do have noise gates. Thnx
