Bedroom amp recommendations?

Might be worth your time to meet up and tweak tones.

I believe that the MG15 is quite alright for a practice amp - overpriced but okay - and just tweaking will allow for some good tones as per what the price allows.

Snag Edo's Cube30 also can... that one is a nice amp.

Hmm if it ain't rockin like u like it, then buy a distortion pedal. The MG15CDR is a good enough amp.

You might want to try minor configuring your guitar too.

Marshall AVT20X (make sure it's made in UK). It's a pre-amp tube Marshall amplifier. Small for an amp that produces good Marshall growls.

I used to have one and then sold it away, cos too many amps in my room for electric, acoustic, bass guitars... *faint*

Davis Guitar sells new AVT20X for $450. A second hand one should cost around $250. Just do a search on google for "Marshall AVT20" and read the good reviews.

But may I suggest that before you decide to pump in more $ to buy a new amp, see if your MG15 can produce better tones by trying the following:-
(1) Try tweaking your amp settings to make it sound interesting.
(2) Check that the tone knob(s) on your guitar is/are turned all the way up. You won't get good tones if the guitar tone knob setting is too low.
(3) Figure out if the guitar strings are old (ie. more than 6 months) and need to be changed.
(4) Swop your cables with some decent ones (ie. borrow from guitarist friends) and check the difference. Poor quality or semi-faulty cables affect the tone.
(5) Get an experienced guitarist to try out your amp, cables and guitar. Alternatively, you could ask the shop that sold you the amp recently to give you a demo.

I don't know your level of experience with guitar playing. No slight or offence intended with my suggestion.

Yup,tweaking is needed..try every settings..But if all else fails,SMARVO!!!!AHAHAHAHA!!!I think i am becoming a SMARVO craze enthusiast.. 8) :P :) :D

sad to hear that

yes the distortion or overdrive or those rubbish really sounds like crap

but the clean is really awesome... spend some times tweaking it and will get it done great... plus it can take pedals pretty well as well

:)

apart from that trademark 10, i would also say the Kustom Tube12.

tho at its price, most ppl would prefer amps with lots of digital effects which in the end they probably wouldnt use, and then wish they had better distortion :P

Trademark 10... AWESOME little baby. A pity its disconitnued.

Kustom 12A? I got it... sounds very warm and gets really loud, takes pedals well! Onboard drive goes from warm breakup to blues crunch to mind numbing fuzz!!!

I've tweaked it a lot of times...while it is nice with the multi effect, without it, the overdrive sounds so dead...

Strings are definitely not old...changed them like, 2 weeks ago...

Which cables are considered decent? I'm currently using a 8 dosh type (10 feet) from Davis...

I haven't got this amp recently, lol...I've got it for like...5 months? Or maybe even more...

I don't know which multi-effects you use. Personally, I don't think it is fair to expect a relatively affordable amp like the MG15 to have in-built overdrive that can compare with a higher end multiple effects pedal.

About cables... there's a wide range of quality. I think the cables you bought from Davis should do for now. I have bought quite a few things from Davis and I can't imagine them selling crap cables (maybe with the exception of those given away free with budget items).

If you wish to try other cables... For a start, may I suggest the Klotz cables packed in-house and sold by Guitar77. Produces clean sound at an affordable price. Good value for money but less durable and slight loss of tone compared to those we shell out lots of $$$ (ie. George L's) to buy. I am sure there are also other affordable and good cables from other shops ie. Luthermusic.

Which is why I'm asking the question...

I'm using a Zoom G2.1u, btw..

I would think a MG15 to be good enough too. Keep it, buy a good overdrive pedal to further drive it, you should get a real good sound.

I am using a valbee. Very satisfied with it. But always looking for good overdrive unit to complement it.

Just got a MXR/Custom Audio Boost/overdrive, donno whats the outcome....

Where can you get Tech 21 or Kustom Amps here in SG? I got a used Trademark 10 in August overseas and I think its one of the best amps I've used, even more so for its cheap price.

For that matter, Polytone amps in SG? I guess it would qualify as a bedroom amp only in terms of its size, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about its availability here.

Right, bro. Each guitar player will need to decide what level of sound quality vs cost he is comfortable with. Unless we are already using high end equipment, there will always be something else that sounds even better when we are willing to pay more.

Define Marshall sound.

Marshall heads.
hmm wait... maybe the marshall sound u are looking for has to do with 4×12 cabs...

y don't u want to use a pedal? i'd say a crunchhbox into a 1×10 or 1×12 neutral sounding (laney; smarvo; vox) amp would be a good choice
