Bedroom amp recommendations?

df

I'm looking for one that's good enough for bedroom playing, won't make you pawn your wallet and is able to give a Marshall like sound.

I've currently got a Marshall MG15CDR and was looking to get a Roland Cube 30 but the distortion isn't really what I'm looking for...but yea, looking to get something like a Cube 30.

Any recommendations?

whats wrong with the marshall MG15?

The distortion of it is very raw and not powerful...I want an amp which has a strong distortion like the Cube 30 as I don't want to use any pedals.

Share your settings please...

I can tweak an MG15 to have a very heavy, nu-metal like kind of chug, or a more raw, open crunch....

Seriously? Without pedals?

My settings IIRC, were:

Gain - 7
Bass - 6
Contour - Not too sure
Treble - 5?
Reverb - 5?

Yes without pedals.

What guitars do you use? Pickups?

I usually go:

Gain - 2 oclock
Treble - 12 oclock
Contour - 1 - 3 oclock
Bass - 1 oclock

Then that FDD button... depending on whether my ears need a rest, its usually on.

I used that amp when teaching @ a Music School. I get chug all I want....

Actually, I can't think of anything that is small and really sounds pure Marshall - other than a Marshall 18w fulltube which is out of your budget (probably). (Google if you're interested.)

Try a clean nonmodelling amp and run a Crunch Box, or any other pedal which supposedly gives a Marshall in a box, see if that works for you. You can also try the Behringer GM110 which is pretty decent and has a GT2 circuit (or variant) built in.

You gotta be a bit realistic though when it comes to the authenticity of the sound - there's a reason why people still buy Marshall fulltube heads.

MG15CDR.............i tend 2 agree with df largely.........i dunno maybe its bcos i have hated it since i tried it or bcos of my friend's horror stories. Bottom line: try it out 1st. If cannot then get pedals or a new amp(if got money)

That 18W fulltube sure as hell is out of my budget...doesn't even come close...

I've tried pedals that supposedly has a Marshall sound built inside but after trying out a marshall head + cab at a studio, pedals just don't cut it.

But yea, I know I won't get an exact replica of a Marshall sound unless I get the full tube heads but I just want something that comes somewhat close and doesn't need any boosting by a pedal.

It's the headroom that you're missing imo. You can get decently close to a Marshall by placing a Marshall-type gain pedal in front of an amp with high headroom.

You can also try out a Trademark 30 or 60. I never tried one, but on paper it might be closer than the other offerings on the market.

Now I got another option which is get the Behringer V-amp 2 'coz it's got a JCM800 modeller...yay or nay?

id say nay

multieffects modelers generally work best with a frfr amp. Eg. keyboard amp.

For modellers best to get something that is part of the amp. Eg, vox valvetronix, roland microcube, line6 flextone series
