Baybeats thoughts

I'm pretty surprised that noone mentions about Urbandub, In my opinion they're one of the few that cast some good memories. Is anyone impressed by them ?

i am. but im filipino

anyway i thought they played great. they even sounded better live than their record hehe. last time i got to watch them in manila was more than a year ago... i'd say they have really matured and now feel comfortable on stage

im happy for them for their well deserved exposure

e: Any thoughts on the Portishead sounding band from Indonesia? Everybody Loves Irene....

Not that much like Portishead... to my surprise.

I thought they were like a tribute band when I heard their tracks on MySpace.

apart from all the bands that u guys mention which is great and there is no doubt abt it..... i interviewed some international acts and they have great hope in this event and local music industry, they also express that local bands are getting better.... and finally all of them gave the some advices....

"PRATICE, WORK HARD & PLAY THE MUSIC BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT!!!"

cheers and keep on rawking guys... :) :)

Yeah Urbandub was awesome! Superbly tight. Like the vocals a lot. And the drummer. The CD is shiokness too.

I thot most of the bands tend to enjoy themselves onstage. That's qte important too. If you can't enjoy what you're playing your show will stink, whether or not there are irritating crowd members who want to mosh, etc... At least there were no hecklers (yes, I remember the days of the Fat Frog).

Allura is a great live band to watch, energetic, with the kind of exuberance that you rarely see in local bands, who tend to get a little too absorbed in the music sometimes....

I also like Giants Must Fall, but must agree with Kevin soulalt, started a little muted, I guess for the early act, it's a bit nerve-wracking, but when you're the band that everyone sits down to, it's hard to get it on.

I still think these are two bands to watch for in the future...

As for the other acts, like the others who have already commented, those who were good really were good (whether technically or performance-wise), and those who should practise more, should do so...

Anyway, my 3 cents' worth. Don't kill me, this is just MHO.

in the main page theres a scroller for daily news, just scroll down a little and there are links to the photos.

I love Giants Must Fall's set. It's very sincere, in a way.

Though, sometimes I misread their band name as Giant Mushroom for some reason.

Urbandub is the band with substance that separates from all other bands in this year's baybeats. You can hear the disparity of having 2 guitarists and originality in alternative indie. The rest of the bands are a waste of time! meh! my 2 cents :)

i think giants must fall must be one of the most underrated bands around i guess. they come across to me as a very sincere band. it would be nice that if someone could post a video or something man. i didnt get to go see them. army duty calls man! = (

soulalt - Hey you're from Popland yep? I heard some tracks from Popland's myspace page, I like! "Dumb Thing"'s my personal fav.

Ok back to post-Baybeats thoughts  Is it just me or did last year's Baybeats seem to have had bands from a wider range of genres?

hey, can you guys do me a favour?

there was another band from philippines that played at Arena 9.10pm I think on day 1.

after that Utopium (FRA) at powerhouse
then plainsunset at arena back.

funny thing is, baybeats website never mentioned the name of it. and soulalt's blog didn't review also, he went to "eat" i think

it's the band who carried the philipines flag. I can't make out what he said his band name was "Corn" or something
