it was their performance during their auditions for baybeats determine whether the make the cut or not.
some are just not ready to be in the line up.

agree..it's just like american idol..if you chose the wrong song or had an off day..then you'll have to try harder next year.

Sorry la guys but after participating in the audition, i think i can safely say it's not a question of proficiency.
Neither is it a question of musical talent.
However I can say one thing for all the bands that got in. They all have good SONGS. Written well in the context of Baybeats genre preferences, and they probably will be appreciated by more people. Whether they executed them impeccably is still up for discussion, but i think the judges preferred more mainstream songs executed fairly to songs that won't be able to drum up a singaporean crowd, executed perfectly.

Hmm...really....coz i thought that baybeats is the biggest music festival for the local scene....and it should feature the best...yes its true that popular bands does not mean they are the best.....so name a few bands that really deserve to play in baybeats?....i wanna know...haha

personally if i were organizing a large scale festival, i'd be looking for the same thing!

And when we say "best" i think we can agree that in this context it means:
The "best" bands for the Baybeats local music festival.
Not "best" as in technically astounding or can sing like mariah carey or whatever.
So these are the bands that would "best" serve the purpose of baybeats, and i think that's to bring local music to as many people as possible.
Niche markets will always remain niche markets, i believe that if local music receives enough attention via festivals like baybeats, there'll be enough of a pie for everyone to sink their teeth into.
