Bass neck bending?

Hey guys, gotta question... Ok, i got a bass, and the neck kind of like "bends" after it's tuned up. The bend is mostly visible around the headstock area. This makes me a bit "scared" ... So i tend to keep my face far back during tuning. Just in case the neck breaks. What is this "condition" called? Any idea how i can get this rectified?

it's called neck warp. and unless you know how to adjust the truss rod, i suggest you take it for a professional setup.

Thanks bro.. Currently it is doing ok, and i can tune it and detune it after use without much of a prob. I was thinking of getting it re-stringed... Worried it might not be able to take the tension of a supposedly heavier set of strings. At the moment, without a string change, i wonder if neck breakage is a possibility here?

probably not. but neck warp can be an issue, you may find the action a bit high.

and if you want to put heavier gauge of strings on it, why not do that during the setup too? you have to buy your own strings anyway.

Go get it set-uped before it gets worse .
It's similar to my cousins electric guitar . His didnt took care of his guitar properly until the day the neck broke out of the body . He then went repair his guitar and had to pay alot more than the guitar costs him . Funny though if you see the guitar after it breaks . hhehe
And the funniest thing was when he was taking out his guitar out of the bag after he hears A7x's afterlife , he puts the guitar on his lap and plop ! the neck broke off ! I was like ehh? so serious.. Then a few secs latr , I laugh like mad !!My cousin was fcuked up .
The next day go repair , show the guitar at the uncle . The uncle laughed , I also laugh !

Ok i'm starting to get off topic here .. So if u dont want your guitar to be like mike cuz , go get it repair . BEFORE IT GETS WORSE !

On this subject....

Hi guys,
following on the subject of necks...

i've adjusted my truss and such that i have pretty much neutral relief on my low E string but when this happens i get forward bow on my G string, around 3rd fret area. it's not bothering me but thought i'd ask anyway.

anyone know how i can fix this? wrong string gauge, lousy neck, lousy truss rod, wrong adjustment or???

or perhaps i should just get a bass with dual truss rods lol

sounds like a dead spot? this kind of thing happens. the only real way to fix it if thats the case is to redress the frets

^ Me too. That's what happens when a guitarist plays on the bass, i think. Hardly ever utilise the bottom 2 strings. Oh well.

heh no lah cos the forward bow is around the 3rd fret area i think (haven't seen my bass in a long time!) so it only buzzes badly if i fret 1st or 2nd fret.. which i almost always play on the D string so.. yeah lor.

i think not because of the bow lah, but its because the fret itself is abit too high. not uncommon in guitars and basses from the factory. it won't affect your play in any way UNLESS you play that particular spot.

ya usually bassists play on the thicker strings. got a difference in tone. and the lower strings are mostly for runs lah. or maybe chords. thats what the dudes with the 6+ string basses go for, solos and chords. 5 string bassists could be the same, or maybe they just need the low notes. but for majority of the guys (especially in most band settings) 4 strings is enough
