word of caution, always check the bass your buying, particularly cheaper basses, i got mine with improperly seated frets

Best would be to get a bass playing friend that is reasonably experienced to help you look for manufacturing errors and such. However you must take note that one man's meat may be another man's poision! What your friend may like in a bass may not what you're looking for.
