barring techniques..

I recently notice some of the electric guitarists using another method of barring the frets, not the traditional way with the left hand, but with the right hand instead and doing hammer ons and pull offs with the left. What is this technique called? Are there any webbies out there to learn from? Thanks. :D

are you talking about muting the strings with the right hand and doing legatos with the left?

oh you mean the right hand is used to mute the strings? not to barre them?

ah ha...thats technique, that is not barre with the right hand ar? I thought is barre all along, I see steve via do it got look at where he put his right hand one..

it's doing hammer-ons wif yr fretting hand while e right hand is at e nut muting e strings, so as 2 reduce string noise. not excatly tapping coz tapping involves pull-offs, which u cant do coz yr strings r muted by yr right hand.

and it looks cool. ^^

Zakk Wylde did that years ago. Maybe not barring entirely, but as he pulls off his left fingerings, his right hand slides back down the neck, creating a descending pedal as his licks went on. Partly showmanship, but you can use it creatively. Up to u to explore.

I noticed Paul Gilbert is somewhat less adventurous when it comes to tapping, tho his alternate picking is way up there...
