Bands that change their style

although not much screaming as the last few albums i still enjoy it....the change is okay....just that i wish the screaming to come back a lil bit more and more awesome songs like 'blow'

Someone mentioned FFAF.
Well, since a big listener from their debut, 'Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation", there was a huge change...
I haven'tg gotten their 4th album, but from what i heard, it's quite disappointing... Seems that the band is running out of ideas.
One of the difference could be the depature of bassist/vocals, Gareth Davies, who is the brother of vocalist, Matt.

Hours was a fine release though their sound toned down, and even much further with "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" which they even had one of their songs played on national radio...

^I thought they were brothers?.

InfernoxDeath: The bassist left?. I didn't know about that. I've heard the whole album. Every track is listenable. But to compare it to Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation or Hours album, it's just not the same. You might call it disappointing.

I would say their sound didn't tone down during the Hours album. They were much heavier than the Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation album.

Bassist left...
:)
Despite different opinions, i believe Hours is still their best release to date...
Not disappointed by the toning down of their style... I feel this is the only band that mature through the years...
All of them seems to be married as well...

One back that totally disappoint me is Sonic Syndicate.
Swedish product, made famous for their metal scene... And their debut, "Eden Fire" was probably one of the better melodic death metal release...
Each album they release (2 altogether), they sound much more 'gay' than ever...
If you had a chance to listen to 'Eden Fire' and compare it with their latest release, 'Love and Other Disasters', you'll be able to tell the huge change...
Look at the title! Typical emo title...

erm how do I say this.

I prefer A7x now. Of course I enjoyed the screaming era of M Shadows, but please, everyone grows up, gets more experience and mature. You can't really enjoy 'Dear God' with a metalcore background right? They are not going mainstream, its what people want, and the people get. Don't blame it on the band, blame it on the fans. Sometimes you can't stay true to genre you started out. Sometimes it might even be the death of the band. Eg. boybands and girlbands. 'Nuff said

The Clash changed alot on one of their albums. But I enjoyed it. It shows the band has creativity.

try Tiamat. almost a totally different genre for each of their release. from death metal to death/doom to progressive/death to gothic.

early behemoth was black metal but its now black metal influenced death metal which i really like cos of their aggressive style.

cradle of filth, from melodic/symphonic black to what it is now. gothic rock or metal or smth.

burzum's solo works. from black metal to atmospheric/ambient music.

just to name a few off the top of my head.

oh tiamat
the bassist is the brother of the bassist of in flames.
lol.
ok random.

but they're nice.
haha

Trivium changed from metalcore (Ascendency) to Thrash metal (Shogun). The Crusades sounded too bland for me but Shogun sounds really good, definitely a notch up in songwriting and technicality. These guys are improving.

Sigur Ros had quite a huge change from their past albums to the newest one. The newer one is more "poppish" and accessible, but I still love them dearly. :)

Not to mention Stadium Arcadium. I LOVE RHCP. every single album from their self-titled to by the way. even one hot minute. but I dislike stadium arcadium. maybe two or three songs i like but i can't seem to like the entire album like i did for the last eight albums

aye aye to that. i love every single album, even freaky styley! but i think they.. screwed up with Stadium Arcadium. i mean, you could still write songs that'll appeal to the radio-listening masses while still maintaining your sound/roots or whatever, like they did with Scar Tissue and By The Way. They even tried to 'defend' the Stadium Arcadium sound with a line from 'Turn It Again': "We've got to move it if we want to do our best/ We've got to shake it if we want to keep it fresh"..
Robert Plant just called the album a collection of nursery rhyme.. *sigh*

Oh, and what about the Smashing Pumpkins, what with their Zeitgeist nonsense. James Iha and Darcy might have sucked, but i like them waay more back then than now.

my 2 cents..

Smashing Pumpkins never changed style. Billy Corgan is still leading a band of weirdos behind his shiny skirt. For all I know, the music actually got abit better with Zeitgeist, Machina was kinda pretentious. But they (he) changed, definitely.

Bananaguy: Chris Cornell as I have stated above, is definitely trying a new style. He is trying to pile as much crap in his already non-existant solo career. He thinks he's better than Audioslave, well he's wrong. I used to admire him alot, now he's just irritating. The only good solo album he had was Euphoria Morning, which wasn't that incredible either.

Linkin Park.....used to like them when they had a much harder sound and not to mention a very unique nu-metal style infused with rap....really interesting that caught my attention in midst of all that $@#$@ boybands at that time

Change for the good.

PANTERA: In the early 80s Pantera was a glam rock band, you wouldn't believe if you ever got to hear their album in early 80s. Until they kick out the old vocalist and replace him with Phil Anselmo. Then thats the beginning of the PANTERA you know today. To me, that is a change for good.

SHADOWS DIAMOND said
"from death metal to metalcore to thrash metal... it went downhill "

How is that downhill?
Im a fan of thrash metal, your hierarchy is wrong.I am not a fan of death metal or metalcore bands but i do listen to them and respect the genre. Without thrash metal......no death metal, no speed metal, no grind etc.Of course no metalcore.

metallica has 100% changed when their newest album, Death Magnetic came out. But Underoath is a Christian Metal if im not wrong. But yes they did change a little frm their past. but they've been a religious metal band since the start of the band.

Radiohead's leap from OK Computer to Kid A/Amnesiac must surely rank as one of the most amazing musical transformations and yet somehow it all sounds like only Radiohead coud sound like.........
