Band Photography anyone?

Usually, my bro edder bro will say

but some peeps say a pic-cher say a thousand words...

This is what I think his most famous shot... or at least to me. Ahem...

let me clarify myself before this thread degrades into off topic any further.

i'm offering free photography to selected bands. yes u've heard me right and i've done it for a few before.

otherwise, there are a few bands who've approached me to do shoots on a paid assignment basis. if you think $200 is expensive, u can always look elsewhere. i believe in giving quality(the pictures are actually big enough for u to print 20x30inch). and to be frank, $200 isn't expensive at all. u can ask around in local photography forums(e.g. www.clubsnap.org). if you are interested, i can break down the cost for you.

i'm looking forward to work with bands who are interested to get some shots of themselves, as well as something to be part of my portfolio as well.

thanks for all the PMs. keep them coming. i will appreciate no off-topic posts.

feel free to discuss with me at lepids@hotmail.com(msn)

Corbijn is the man to go to if you want those super artistic shots for those huge bands lah...

He shot Metallica (after the Black album era), Depeche Mode, Kylie and tons.

Me is no photographer or anything but I can usually recognise his shots. Veru distinctive.

Yeah Anton Corbijn, rocks!

here's a couple of Anton Corbijn-influenced shots of the bass player from Meatspace Lounge in Singapore.

The colored one was taken using Canon 350 DSLR while the B/W was shot with Olympus OM10 loaded with Ilford Delta 400 film.

Just to add on to what lepids said... $200 really is a good price for photos that, if used well, will pay for themselves through gigs and events in no time. Even if the DGO pays you a token sum of $50, all you have to do is play 4 gigs to earn the money back. Maybe 6-8 gigs if you want to factor in jamming studio costs.

Just my $0.02.

I totally agree with superkicky.
Promo photos are just as important for a band. I personally feel to set a good impression to people before listening to you is to at least have a decent band photo.
Photos come in handy for magazine reviews, website promotions, press packs..etc etc.

The amount you pay also helps feed the photographer. Ha. I may sound biased here cos I myself take pix so I know how fellow photogs feel.

But having said all this, pay an amount you're comfortable with. At the end of the day, it's still a win win situation when you walk home with nice rocking photos. :)

Another thing I noticed is that most gig photographers takes photos cos they like to do it.

what irks me is that bands uses the photos without crediting the photographers.

Don't wanna pay nevermind, don't wanna ask permission nevermind... at least credit that silly fella that walks around with heavy expensive equipment lah!

haiyorrr.... ungracious people lor...

biopromax, did lepids say that he would charge $200 per photo? i.e. if he gave you 5 photos you would have to pay him $1000?

edder- Bands not crediting isn't so bad. Venue DGOs of massive gigs using photos to display without credit is even worse... happened a few years back.
