Its not a waste of funding lah...

Its very very interesting to read abt from a layman's point of view.

Last time, we all thought smallest = electrons and protons... now, there are even smaller building blocks! Quarks they be called.

And to see them... you need accelerators. And the Hadron Collider is one such accelerator. Just that its... > 20 km round, spans across 2 countries, costs about 2,345,120 Ibanez guitars.
