the avatar sizes are too small..and i think that avatars should be unique for each member...so i think there should be a bigger avatar? coz everytime i try to put my own pics...there's bound to be a restriction....just a thought...no offence

hmm i use a .gif editor to edit my avatar... its originally very very big... i think the original file size was around 20× the current one u see...

just compress ur frames to a compressed .jpg mode and cut down on odd or even number of frames... that way u'll have 1/2 the frames and sized down images...

as for normal images.. easy... crop important part u want and save as .jpg... put settings of compression so that the file size is just nice to upload...

u can just go microsoft paint, take ur big picture, stretch and skew to smaller size! its easy, and u should save it as a jpeg sized file... much smaller... just a thought!

eh actually IMO this avatar size is jus rite.. i've seen so many other forums but their avatar are usually huge and full of craps.. which in e end makes the whole forum simply looks messy.. it just turns my mood off when i'm chatting in a messy forum.. which is y i'm sticking to soft if there is really a need for size increase,then.. every1 should have yet another uniformed size which will still make the site looks neat.. neat is the word IMO.. :wink:

There is a very useful function which apparently not many people use. The quality of the colours in the avatar is negligent since it is so small. My file size was compress from 11kb to just 6kb.

If it's just a picture and you're using photoshop, go to menu bar on top:- File > Save for Web

A new window will open up with your picture in there. On the right, you will see a couple of things.

1. Settings - I leave it alone most of the time.

On the left
2. Format (Just underneath Settings left side) - set to JPEG, Maximum. (If it shows up by default, leave it as it is.)
3. Progressive/ICC Profile - untick by default

On the right...
4. Optimized - tick
5. Quality - I set it to 100.
6. Blur/Matte - I left it untouched.

Below, click on the tab <<Image Size>>
7. You can resize your picture from there too.

After all these, check your size, if it's correct, click Save.

Benefit of using this method, at the bottom of your picture, you will see a column where it states clearly the type of file you are altering and the size of the file as you adjust. This is very good if you are resizing your avatar picture to fit into the 6kb rule.
