ar!!! need help on cymbal cleaning

hey guys i met with on e hACK OF a serious probelm. my cymbals got kinda dirty during play, i was learning to choke then i never clean. now i use cymbal cleaner cannot remove some stain. how help?? i'm using the dunlop cymbal cleaner. how? those stains are stubborn

Groove Juice is good or a cheaper alternative will be ketchup, its effective but make sure to clean it good and not to leave it too long.

WARNING: Do NOT use Groove Juice / Zimms cymbal polish on TRADITIONAL finish cymbals... they will turn green.. they work fine on Brilliant finish cymbals though...

Here's how I clean my cymbal.

Dissolve the cymbal in the water, add some vinegar and dishwasher liquid, and stir a bit.

Go practice or do whatever and leave it for an hour or two. The gunk and dirt, fingerprint, etc. will wipe right off. Towel dry for the fresh feel. Don't leave them in the water too long though, as the ink logo on your cymbal will be gone.

It will clean only one side, so you have to flip them and re do it if you want to clean both sides. This has saved me a lot of elbow grease and time and it won't harm your cymbal.

It take two hands to clap... the solution and the wiper... get the orange cloth from Home Fix... the texture of the clothe and the cleaning solution will do the job with some hard rubbing... no worry... won't have scratches... :wink:

Seriously... I am about to do some experiment on some cymbals... all to see how the sound changes with the reaction change of the molecules...

1. Put the cymbal in the freezer till sub-zero degree and soak it immediately in boiling water.

2. Soak the cymbal into boiling water till the water cool to room temperature.

3. Soak the cymbal into boiling water for a while and then to the freezer.

Will report the findings...

Well, people have been using the Vinegar and salt to clean bell and orchestra cymbals for decades, if not centuries. I just substitute salt with dishwasher liquid.

My elbow ain't no good like 10 years ago. It saves a lot of rubbing for me.

check out the new Sabian cymbal spray on cleaners (they released it about 1-2 yrs ago)....they're are AWESOME!!!! Not the pure white bottles, but the new ones with red sticks on them.

Now, brasso are brass/bronze polishers and they're very very strong. All cleaners clean by taking a thin layer of material off the surface....but stuff like brasso takes off way too much....be careful....

Just leave the spray on for a longer time....if kept on, it can remove the logos, create some discolouration.....so its not "really" that mild....it does take away deep layers, but its safer, cos reaction is slower...
