I tried out the S470DXQM at SweeLee sometime back.
The neck felt nice, fast and smooth and if I remember correctly, it has an unfinished maple neck. It's easy to reach the upper frets and it had an overall good feel.
However, I'm not a fan of the size of the body. While it does admittedly have a nice thick tone like a Les Paul, i felt that the size of the body, organic to some, felt kinda artificial to me. Something about the thinness of the body didn't appeal to me, but it's just a personal preference, you should probably try it out yourself.
Also, when I tried out the S470DXQM and a SZ320 side by side, the S470 seemed to weigh more to me, I assumed it was the ZR tremolo that was providing the extra weight, even though the SZ was thicker and had more wood mass. If you don't use the whammy often, the SZ or the SA might be a worthy consideration.
I ended up getting the SZ320MH in the end, it's a cousin of the S-series but features a contoured top with a flat back with a rib contour. The neck is sizably thicker than that of the S470DXQM, but I don't play (or rather, can't play
) much metal or shred, so I picked the SZ instead due to the overall better feel (IMO) and size. In fact, I was so impressed by the smoothness and playability of the S-series neck that I opted for the SZ which did not have a painted/finished neck. Mine was a light oil finish..
