Anyone ever heard of Vanilla Fudge (60s rock band)?

I first went to find out abt this band when I read in a Ritchie Blackmore interview that when Deep Purple was 1st formed, he was inspired by Vanilla Fudge n wanted to copy their style.

Heres a transcript of the interview from GW:

GW: Let's get back to the beginning of Deep Purple. How did you and Jon meet?

BLACKMORE: I met him in a transvestite bar in '68, in Hamburg, Germany. [laughs] Back in the late Sixties, there were few organists who could play like Jon. We shared the same taste in music. We loved Vanilla Fudge - they were our heroes. They used to play London's Speakeasy and all the hippies used to go there to hang out - Clapton, The Beatles - everybody went there to pose. According to legend, the talk of the town during that period was Jimi Hendrix, but that's not true. It was Vanilla Fudge. They played eight-minute songs, with dynamics. People said, "What the hell's going on here? How come it's not three minutes?" Timmy Bogert, their bassist, was amazing. The whole group was ahear of its time. So, initially we wanted to be a Vanilla Fudge clone. But our singer, Ian, wanted to be Edgar Winter. He'd say, "I want to scream like that, like Edgar Winter." So that's what we were - Vanilla Fudge with Edgar Winter!

So meaning to say, if not for Vanilla Fudge, Deep Purple would probably never existed.

I introduced my drummer to VF with this video n now he`s hooked. He has the habit of copying the drummer (Carmine Appice) from tat video.

One thing for sure, my band is going to cover this song sometime in the future. :)

True, a great band. Jeff Beck later recuited Carmine Appice and Timmy Bogert
to form the power trio Beck, Bogert and Appice. I had both their albums (now all gone la). You from those days Faisal?

Hmm, an unusual young curious lad. BTW I had the magazine with the Blackmore interview, later became food for termites. Quite an old one I think?

Budgie songs were covered by metallica when they were starting out and their fans thought it was metallica's originals

While we are at it, how about THE glam-rock band of the 70s, the groupie-devouring - KISS. And their pentatonic maestro Ace Frehley (and over-priced Les Paul signature model :D )
