Anyone applying for NTU/NUS this year?

Academic grades are important, though many other things are equally if not more important. Testimonials will help a lot! Community service etc will also help! Employers nowadays are not really looking for grades..more of extra-curricular activities. Well that's from what I gathered at my interviews.. :) If you have a chance to stay in hostel, please do so, it's very enriching (other than fun and politics)

u actually spoke to them? b4 u entered the uni or during uni days?

During my uni days, cos i was doin a project which i had to interview them.

Agree with Narco, that u migh not go into watever u be studying in uni, but it will be better if u are goin down tat path cos u will do well. A uni education is useful in a sense as it requires more independent learning and self discipline, not like poly where u can slack and still manage to pull through. Uni edu also trains ur analytical skills and pushes ur limits alot. Its challenging but u will reap the rewards when u step into the society. Continuing from wat nacro elaborated, nowadays employers are looking for a total package not jus academic grades, but ur other soft skills as well.

^ yeah

Uni was tough for me especially in my first semester. If you're from JC it's harder than if you're from poly cuz they have shitloads of projects/presentations/blah blah that really drain your brain juices. Not to mention almost 99% of the population are super muggers. Life is really crazy! You gotta have lots of discipline to score..but learn to enjoy too. Hard work has paid off and now I'm enjoying a two-day week with slack modules in my final semester.

Paper alone is not enough trust me....experience is what counts...even if you are a graduate wont guarantee you a job that you like....anyways, paper is important as it is like a kickstart to a career. after that its all based on experience....trust me. Its good to upgrade your skills and knowledge to help you in your career. But nothing is more valuable than experience...

Yeah the paper only helps u to get to the industry and after that its all experience and performance, the paper gets chugged away...

hmm , i m aiming for SMU .

but NTU and NUS also can lar , hmmz JC dude here, unsure of when A levels coming out though.

anyone got any good course recommendations ?
from a musician's point of view, SMU is the best to go. you can walk to swee lee, yamaha, peninsular, simlim, peace centre and all those areas. but u'll get constant gas attacks. haha. smu's also getting an agreement with timbre to get smu bands to perform there one night a week on a regular basis. good exposure for a budding musician too i guess.

in terms of academic stuff. insane crazy competition. but not too long hours with not much work. as contradicting as it seems. i'm a first year smu student. gluck to all applying anyway. stars, keep me posted if you get into smu la. it's good to know more bassists in smu :)

Well its the 1st week of March already n hope I can see a big, fat NUS or NTU envelope in my mailbox by end of this mth..wish me luck!!! :P

Heya any of u guys got ur replies from ntu/nus/smu yet? I`m already rejected by nus but havent heard anything from ntu and smu yet...anyone :P?

My bro went for the interview at SMU and NTU ready, Economics and Mass comm respectively ... Quite cool to go local U, i guess .. Too bad I can't go with my shitty poly grades even if i cheong year 3 ... hahahaha

Kinda off topic,.. Im graduating from NUS also whoohoo now looking for job. but yeah its true the job am applying now although its in the same field as my studies itlll be completely different thing from wat ive learnt in nus.

My roomate in NTU is from poly and his average grades are B. Tried his luck and managed to get into NTU Eng. Don't worry so much lah its just a piece of paper. Just do your best for your exams.

PS if u do not recieve word about your application, pls go and hound them cause there are so many people applying and there's a huge chance that they might have messed up.Hell it happened to me back then.

care to share what happened?

i applied straight after my results and i din get a letter at all(no reject and no acceptance) even though i got AAB for my A levels. Went down asked around and the staff said i had no place in the uni even though i applied for arts as a saftey choice. my friends who got B average grades all went in. Lo and behold 2 days later the letter came. Total opposite of what they told me.My guess is tat they musthave misplaced my admission documents(last time no online registration yet). Infact it happened to my uncle as well who in the end got admitted into NUS medicine(long time ago). Maybe its genetic.

Wah... I have not recieve my ntu letter and NS letter yet... But I did recieve my nus letter. Now I am thinking whether to accept NUS course or not... headache... cos it is a departure from my diploma and it is a new degree but it sounds cool so I put it in 1st choice and got it. Anyway it is a degree called project and facilities management... anyone knows more about this course?

Ave B from poly still gt chance, My grades ave B and i got into NTU. Life will be tough but you will get used to it. And yes halls are fun not to mention if you can join the hall band, free jam room =).

Timex u still in ntu or wat?

Looks like there's quite a few ntu fellows here.

faizal..keep trying...do make a call to the schools to check it out..there are times when they have one or 2 extra vacancies because some opt to drop the course.
the entry prerequisite for the business faculties are generally more stringent particularly for poly graduates. it used to be average As (like the COM holders) poly grads who were granted the vacancies. However, they are opening up more slots now to cater to the average students too.
Entry to the engineering faculties are slightly easier for poly grads as the universites tend to favour the prior hands-on skills that poly grads with engineering diplomas have. it's possible to secure vacancies with average Bs. The intake is definitely larger for engineering faculties. As for business faculties, it used to be quite miserable, 10-15 for all then-4 polys out of 600+ intake. That was during my batch back in 2002/3. Hope it helps. Thanks.

ciel21, i am in my last semester liao. Final yr MAE.After ten thousand years of mugging and near tah baoing i am almost free.
