hey softies? I'm bored la. Just wanna know anybody here owns a double guitar? If u have then cool! Ur one hell of a guitar player!

Dont forget to post your pics if u have one!!

i think it's pretty obvious he means a double neck guitar.

i've seen the guy from zero sequence use one before, looks cool but not really necessary most of the time

While it indeed looks cool on a player on stage, it will not be cool when he/she has to strap that thing on for hours. Definitely heavy and strains your back :P

i have a double-neck, but doesnt mean im one hell of a guitar player :P

one other guy here has a double-neck also, but his is a gibson.

i havent had time to take a pic of it with my other SGs yet, but for eye candy heres the everythingsg.com owner's collection.

so yea, a couple others in that forum also have the epi double-necks :P

Isn't it hard to play when you are sitting down? And when restringing, need to buy 3 packs of strings..

its not hard to play.

the double-neck body is actually wider by just under a business card's width compared to a normal SG, basically by not much.
but its of cos damn friggin heavy, easily heavier than a gibson LP i once had.

and 3 packs? u do know they make 12-string gauge packs right?
i dont play the 6-string side as much as the 12-string anyway, so obviously i wont be re-stringing both necks at the same time.

Yes - an EDS-1275 (for that is what that is) is hard to play when you are sitting down (assuming you are of average height). Since the guitar body is wider than a normal single neck, when you balance it on your thigh it will come up your armpit and force your right elbow up higher than normal. Your instinct then is to let it slide down your leg which isn't conducive to playing. It is better played on a strap standing up.

i dont really find it hard to play, cos i rest it on my left leg, ie. classical style.

actually i been resting normal guitars on my left leg for quite awhile now.
seems to help better with technique, and also if sitting down it prevents u from slouching / hunching over the guitar.

Sorry - I should have said 'harder' to play. It's all relative. :) I have tried out several of them over the years and have never found them comfortable to play sitting though admittedly I've never tried classical style (do you use a footstool? Not very 'rock' ;) ). BTW - I'd say that the body is bigger than by a business card's width judging by the collection pic:

...looks about 'a pickup and a half'.

I've been toying with the idea of getting one for many years and almost got one of the VOS Jimmy Page ones, but didn't in the end mainly due to lack of space to put the thing.

rick nielsen of cheap trick played one with 5 necks.

as for the eds-1275, my life wouldnt be complete if i dont own one in the future. i'm already geared up to getting one next time.

depends on which area u measure, at the most important point where u rest the elbow at, its about a business card's width.
at the curves its slightly deeper, but that area isnt important.
maybe one day i shall measure it properly :P

plus, at classical style its not about not very rock.
basically, the guitar position when sitting should be similar to when standing, or vice versa.
unless of cos u practice ur whole life standing up.

i wanted the gibson and had a nice offer for one before.
but i chose the epiphone instead.
cos firstly, its obviously cheaper.
and also, in terms of specs its much closer to the jimmy page model than the regular gibson...but needless to say quality wise its different.

Yes, I have a double-neck. 2 of them in fact.

The cool thing about having a double-neck is learning what you can do with the 12 string beyond just strumming chords. I used one once to sound some-what like a sitar by aheading some flanger to it. Jimmy often used the 12 string for short solos too. George Harrison recorded the first rock 12 string solo for Hard Day's Night (doubled with the harpsicord). Harder work and stylistically very different, but very cool and you learn a lot trying new things. My two are an Ibanez lawsuit 6/12 and the Gibson EDS-1275.

Rock on and often.
