Anybody going to Singfest?

i intend to go but yet to bought the tix...still awaiting for the last minute student discount offer...at the same time, tried my luck to join the various contest advertised to win the singfest tix as well...yeah cheapskate me but wat the hell...haha...anyway, if you like the likes of new found glory, simple plan, punk rock kind of shit...go for saturday...if you like the chill out kind of music like jason mraz and alicia keys...den go for sunday...the interesting addition to this year's singfest is the 2nd stage for local acts...kudos to the organisers for doing this...this is wat i call SING(apore) fest...well, with the rise of singfest, hopefully, it wont affect the attendance of baybeats which will be happening at the end of august...

They probably can't afford anymore international bands so they get local bands as fillers...which is of course a good thing for the local scene.

what's with the mentality of local bands being 'fillers'? i would go rather go for the local bands than some of the international acts, and im sure that applies to many others

its only right to include local bands in a music fest named singfest. Last thing wanna, is a music fest locally, that exclude local bands/bands round our region. Heh, we can have less of the "angmo ka tua kee" mentality i guess.

wa lang eh bands mah see wu tua tua kee eh lor! Hoot ka pak eh kok kar eh bands kee long piak!!

hopefully simple plan or new found glory will be watching plain sunset's perfomance and den, hopefully, bring plain sunset along on their tours! ahah...

wishful thinking! wishful thinking!

singfest organisers are killing two birds with one stone...bring in the international artistes dat singaporeans really adore...at the same time, ask our very own local bands to perform to give them exposure on what it feels like play in BIG shows/festivals...

and to whoever who is going, please do make your way to the local bands stage...i dunno how the timings of the bands/artistes is...but hopefully the local and international acts performance wont clash with each other or else, the local bands may end up playing infront of nobody! well, HOPEFULLY, dat wont happen...

anyway, just to add, long gone are the days where we singaporeans find it hard to have their favourite international artistes to perform in singapore...this year alone with have broken social scene, walls of jericho, comeback kid, mono and many more i forget...last year we have funeral for a friend, anberlin, copeland, sick of it all and many more i forget oso...coming up, with have envy, caliban, death cab for cutie, singfest, baybeats...

SO TWO THUMBS UP TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO BRING ALL THE ARTISTE TO SINGAPORE!

please do bring more bands in (and hopefully, at the same time make some profits..haha)

cheers!

=searchthecity

yeah man, agree(: At least there's more concerts from overseas artists these days.

btw, threadstarter, go for both days, best of both yeah!(:

no, even though i love nfg.

the lineup & timeslots are just horrible this year. whoever closes festivals with yawners?

where got yawners? as much as i'm into metal, hardcore and punk rock, alicia keys is brilliant to watch!(if you're into her)...seriously y'all...worth the 200 bucks for the 2nd day...

yup go and watch the local bands
cos they are playing for free.
i think singfest spent a lot of money to bring down pussycatdolls' individual poles for the strip dance set, they got no money to pay the local bands.

haha, i thought the organisers got not enough cash to bring their poles down too? but anyway i prefer Danity Kane. Pussies look like skanks. lol.

and to say local bands are fillers, that is a huge "crime" in itself.

no need bring poles! the pussycats can grind their pussy on my pole!

haha!

really? the local bands are not paid a single cent for singfest...?

sheesh...dat bad ar?

sometimes people say dat its not about the money...but come to think about it, deep inside the local band's heart, they wish they could be paid...furthermore, they are playing at a festival of this scale...

its time gig/show organisers give some thought about this matter...no money means no songs dat can be recorded, no albums to produce, no jamming sessions, no guitars and equipments to buy and etc etc...like dat how can the local music scene progress?

With regards paying local bands i guess it doesn't make sense because local bands wont really get people to buy tickets.

Who would pay $200 to watch a band that performed at a free admission festival (e.g. Ignite) just one week earlier.

For the bands they get to play to an audience that is much broader than the niche local music market, and hopefully win some new fans.

i still feel they should be given a token fee or something.
Singfest's market and OUR VERY OWN MUSIC SCENE market are way out of each other.
Singfest is named Singfest (im guessing) cos ITS BASED IN SG, not so much that they GENUINELY support our own music scene.

i do agree to some extent that its a good exposure for SOME bands. bands that have not had an opportunity to play alongside Major Bands. its a good way to see as to how OUR VERY OWN MUSIC SCENE weighs beside the MAJOR BANDS.

but come on, if they were to give a token fee of 100 per each band, does that really burn a big hole in their pocket? they just need 5 people to pay $200 tix to cover that. FIVE people only.

oh and can we start by not stigmatising our MUSIC SCENE. let eat away with the LOCAL tag.

again, just my humble opinion.

i just think they should bring more power hardcore or metal bands next year.
silverstein gonna tour japan in awhile.
and escape the fate touring aussie..
they could have brought them over easily..

this year day 1 only got crowned king, nfg and lost prophets power only..
simple plan power also la haha, my childhood heroes.
compared to last year' a7x, fueled by ramen bands, the 'rock' day this year abit lousy.

anyway, day 2 sold out i bet midas made a ton of money xD
