There is this method that I learnt when I was just starting out, but it requires you to have the lowE in tune. That can be accomplished with a tuning fork or by the sound-recordings commonly found on the Internet. This method would be kind of redundant if you are using the sound-recording, but whatever, here goes.
Tuning the 5th string.
1.) Pick the 6th string(lowE, already in tune), fretting it just behind the 5th fret.
2.) Pick the open 5th string.
* Allow both strings to play at the same time, the pitches should match. If the pitches do not match, adjust the 5th string accordingly.
Tuning the 4th string.
1.) Pick the 5th string, fretting it just behind the 5th fret.
2.) Pick the open 4th string.
* Allow both strings to play at the same time, the pitches should match. If the pitches do not match, adjust the 4th string accordingly.
Repeat the steps for the remaining strings (3rd and 1st string) except for the tuning of the 2nd string. Of which you follow the steps below,
1.) Pick the 3rd string, fretting it just behind the 4th fret.
2.) Pick the open 2th string.
* Allow both strings to play at the same time, the pitches should match. If the pitches do not match, adjust the 2th string accordingly.
I hope it helps, and apologies for how disorganised my post is.
