Another bad Davis service story

Well, i read the previous thread and suppose i should share my story too. I sent a guitar to them just to replace the screws of my neck joint. Simple job, amazingly i still had to pay the guy 30 bucks for that service. A few months later, i sent my guitar to Kelvin at guitar connection due to a dead fret. He tried removing the neck joint but realised that the screw head had already been broken off but just glued back. I went back to Davis demanding that they explain to me about their crappy set up but all they could say is that it wasn't their fault and they were not prepared to compensate for any repairs at all. Well, a 30 dollar set up turned for the worse to eventually mount up to a 110 dollar set up to remove the screw and the filling up of the holes at the neck joint again.

Oh yeah i remember that incident. 1) Pasting glue work for $30, 2) Didn't bother to tell customer problem.

I wonder what is with this double standards when dealing wtih customers. Inconsistent quality of service based on what? looks?

seems like the mods here dont like people who are against davis. how about we do this: DAVIS ROCKS! WOOHOO! EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO DAVIS EVEN THOUGH THEIR SERVICE SUCKS COS ITS THE BEST STORE EVER!

i believe someone should tell me why are the admins/mods so defensive of davis.

looks meaning caucasian. it is also based on how you flaunt ur money in front of them so that they see that you are rich. ie you dress up like you are going for a big formal function.

yeah!!!i wonder why too.the sweelee thread isnt even closed.everytime i post something about davis it get deleted.

optisailor2002, read through your post. They incite hatred. That is the BIG NO NO in SOFT.

We resolve problems, not create.

SOFT is to bring the community closer. From musicians, schools, shops, studios and other entities. If a band plays badly, we give suggestions to them to improve. In the same light, if you feel that a shop mistreated you, give suggestions for them to improve. Communication is key.

Let's be both a better musician and a better person.

i agree with you, but have they really changed? if they have been this bad since the start, and if people have given feedback to them, do they actually bother trying to change? because all i see is that most of the people there are still given the bad service that davis is known for.

i understand that im just a student so perhaps they think that i wouldnt be able to afford anything. but hey, all customers deserve equal treatment, irregardless of their ability to make any purchase at that point in time. perhaps they can be referred to threads such as this to know just what is going on among their patrons, so that they get to know how people think of them.

btw, is their enquiry email valid for feedback too?

I think you shouldn't have started another thread. Maybe soft can combine both threads.
I hope people do not keep creating threads bashing Davis. Like this, no end one.

James: I don't think it's the best solution to conform IF a shop is consistently giving out bad service. I honestly think that's basically what you are advocating if you keep the "let's all be friends no matter what happens" argument.

Having said that, I'm honestly not sure if bad service stories should be left for discussion here, and if you should even bother to tolerate them.

I do not think the SOFT forum has

1. an obligation to settle 3rd party issues,
2. be possibly involved in lawsuits (It's not an issue of plausibility but possibility that's the point),
3. or allow opinionated, possibly ungrounded/false arguments to run its course.

It's ultimately up to you to decide what to do with this forum, but this is my insignificant piece of advice you may want to assess.

the thing is what most people do when they are giving feedback here is relating their experiences that they have had in the various guitar shops. i agree posts like "i think they suck" without justifying is pointless and probably unfounded, but this isnt the case here. people are justifying why they dislike the shop that they patronise and they are telling fellow members of the forums why they think so.

I'm sorry that i have failed to show a positive side of davis. Their stock is by far the best i've seen, always having an abundant supply of their products and they do bring in stuff on time, however, their service is seriously quite appalling at times and i truly wish to just bring this issue up. However, there is definitely no doubt that their stock is cheap and affordable.

optisailor, your signature says "Marshall", "PRS", "BC Rich"...
you got everything from Davis?

yea got everything from davis ironically. since they are the sole distributor of marshall, prs and bc rich and i am quite "into" those brands i dont really have much of a choice if i dont want a 2nd hand guitar/amp and since i dont have a credit card. and yes, perhaps one good thing about them is that they take good care of their stuff, which is perhaps why people frequent davis.

i understand that im just a student so perhaps they think that i wouldnt be able to afford anything.

students who grow up to become doctors, lawyers and bankers. those who eventually will have the money to afford expensive equipment.

i personally know of a lawyer, plays christian-type music, who enjoys collecting guitars and refuses to patronise Davis because they treated him badly as an NUS student. even though he loves PRS guitars. so he orders online instead

purely an anecdote, but hey, such examples exist.

thats why u never curry favour with only the rich, because those kids that you piss off may grow up to be rich and further spread the bad word of their davis experiences. and guess what? these guys are now respected and powerful in the community

(no offence though, glblues, cos i think that Davis really has to buck up on their service attitude if they want people to start having good impressions of them.)

just replying to this statement from the last thread - absolutely no offense taken. we've all been through the same.

i just wish guitar stores would learn to start listening and replying to customers, who are getting more and more aggravated by them ignoring the problem over many years.

it's all a matter of first impressions (and the impressions thereafter), and whether u're dealing with the right saleperson at the right time guys. so far, every store i've gone has good service and been helpful, inc swee lee and davis.

service is really important. people would definitely come to a store of good service no matter how good or bad the equipments are. i may open a store filled with high end products, but if i give such a bad, snobbish service, "extorting money" out of spoilt goods, people would never come.

Personally, i think the caucasian part is true to a large extent but the money part... Well, even if i've got a lot of money but look like a big doik doik, all the better to rip off...

Maybe not looking like a kid and being seemingly pro might discourage certain stereotypical treatments of customers.

i tink i've said this before and now i'm saying it again..

having said all these negative stuff about Davis' customer service...bla bla bla..

more often than not..it gives people a negative connotation.

Thus, when they step into davis, the bad impression is already there and they tend to be more "sensitive" about it, in a sense that they find fault in very trivial issues..

i've read a few of such threads..but i still patronise davis from time to time..and never have i gotten any bad service..

there was once i was talking to the auntie..and a guy came up to her and told her that he wanted to buy some guitar..*i know its rude to just interrupt me*..i told the auntie to serve him first and that i'll wait for awhile..

den when she came back..i POLITELY talked to her..askin her about the availability of some guitar..well..she replied POLITELY and told me wad i needed to know..and to top it off..before i left..i smiled and sed "thank you very much" and she reciprocated accordingly..*with a middle finger..haha..kidding*..

just for your information..im a poor student (the guitar i asked about didnt even cost much..its only about $950) .and im not chinese either *like that matters*

and NO..the auntie doesnt have a thing for me.
