anyone heard this song before? i heard the tunings weren't standard, can anyone tell me what tuning it is? i heard it's umm, open D? i'm shit on my guitar so i need to know lol, i'll be performing this song acoustic with my friends for prom night (i'm on vocals)

yup heard of it, great song. the tuning is ermm called i think the neelkanth tuning. its the same tuning used by creed(tremonti also) with the song my sacrifice. weird tuning but nice sound, i've tried it before haha

lol mark tremonti always play on that tuning right? i heard the whole of one day remains was played in that tuning

Yup, it's DADAdd tuning.

From a normally tuned EADGBe guitar, turn the 1st string (e) down to d. Tune the 2nd and 3rd string (B and G) up to d and A respectively. 4th and 5th remains the same and the last E string is tuned down to D.

Memorising which goes up and which goes down helps in faster change of tuning on stage, which can be stressful because everybody will be silent and waiting for you to tune. Get your singer to interact with the audience while u nail this.

He uses that tuning cause his singer sings in D.. Both in Creed and Alter Bridge.. So it enables him to play plenty of open chords with that tuning..

uh, what's singing in D lol? i'm not a master at theory. and @madwerewolfboy

i'm the singer lol. anyway we most probably getting 2 guitars for that night, one on this tuning another on standard. my band playing skills not lousy, but not superb, so i think best we tune one first and leave it on stage for that song lol, wait we tune tune tune tune until string break, then GG liao

erm... that's why you need a minimum of 3 guitars per player...

i think i need to borrow liao, our acoustics all no pick-ups. will softies lend their guitars to us?? lol

oh another question, if the guitar tunings not standard then are the bass tunings different also?

Nope, bass tuning can remain the same because non standard tunings are used primarily for utilising open strings while fretting/ strumming certain chords. I don't think the bass lines require these. At most, the last string is down tuned to a D (dropped D)

time to get elixirs my friend! i hate black strings with gunk on it too. my elixirs are already 3 months old and still going strong.

wah wierd tunings....will be a pain in the ass to relearn the fingering positions for scales...
