Allen & Heath

Anyone has experience with Allen & Heath mixers? Although relatively unheard of locally, I see rave reviews about its preamps and efx.

Are there any retail shops that sell Allen & Heath stuff?

Allen & Heath is a good mixer. It been around here for more that 10 over years. I've been using it for live and studio.

relatively unheard??? this brand has been around for so long. is one of the better one in the market you can have.

Pardon my lack of exposure to this field but do allow me to clarify. When I said unheard of, I meant I don't hear it being mentioned in this forum.

That said and done, give your extensive use of it for OB, live sounds etc, could you care to comment on the quality of preamps and efx in contrast with other brands which the uninitiated would be more familiar with eg. Mackie, Behringer, Yamaha...

Thanks.

well ... caught a glimpse of A.H. iLIVE ... it is interesting

and i just lugged off a GL4 today for repairs ... not to say it is bad ... but that board was commissioned 5years ago lol so ...

for private use, it does have some uniqueness in itself, it is a good board. strong PEQs section, straightforward layouts. this refers to the analogue boards for live sound and touring use as in GLs etc.

Mackie against GLs ... in the price range 3k to 9k ... throw the mackies away for live sound. behringer ... no where near the league .... yamaha--> digital boards --> in their own league.

what are you looking for in a board ... if i guess you are looking for one i presume ?

in short if we make brands n models of mixers to correlate with cars ....
allen n heath will fall into the continental range ... from low to mid-high serious live touring range i suppose ... mackie is never into serious live touring arena like midas soundcrafts etc, but A.H. has been in this zone for a long time. i hope this makes sense to you?

Thanks for the insightful post Accesscoms.

I'm looking for a small format live mixer for my practice studio. I do record the practice sessions but as a whole mix to hear how we sound live.

I want to bring the computer out of the equation so its just a good board with good preamps and good simple reverb EFX built in. The outs from the board go into a recorder. So I'm looking at the ZED 12FX to be specific. I was also seriously looking at the Mackie VLZ3 1402 (used a VLZ Pro 1202 once during a gig and was very impressed with the sound we got out of it). I'm currently using a humble Yamaha MG10/2 in my home studio.

But all in all, I would see myself more as a performing musician who wants a decent home setup and acquire some basic useful knowledge about sound engineering in the process rather than a professional sound engineer looking to build the studio of the century.

zed looks sexy ... long throw faders ! .... i'd say this is something i will get too.

Yeah sex appeal is 10/10. Love the red lining and arched bottom.

Both local dealers (Sindoexport + Jaben) sell at 1k flat with GST + 1 year warranty. If I were to ship from US + Vpost, it will be 820. But not so sure about the warranty part.

I guess its pretty clear then, when I decide to get the mixer, I will go for the zed 12FX.
