ALEC EMPIRE (DIGITAL HARDCORE RECORDINGS / BERLIN GERMANY)

Alec Empire, probably the most controversial electronic artist in the world, is famed for being the founding member of activist / hardcore-techno outfit ATARI TEENAGE RIOT, founder of Digital Hardcore Records and his utterly insane stage antics, the experimental German artist will showcase the best of his breakcore and acid reportoire in a three hour set at DXO.

Alec is further distinguished by over a hundred releases and working with top alternative artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein and Rage against the Machine just to name a few. Both hardcore (literally and figuratively) fans can expect to be blown away by the majesty of his riot-inducing stage presence and the naked power of his aural mayhem.

This event has special significance for the art / experimental scene in Singapore as Alec represents the pinnacle of their pantheon of role models (preceding other icons such as Aphex Twin and Merzbow) and opens the gateway for more exotic cultural performances in Singapore.

Alec Empire’s new album is out. He has recruited his new band and it will tour for the rest of the year.

Opening Acts:
Vortex – (Exitmusik / Spectrum)

One of the scene’s more popular selectors, Vortex fronts the Spectrum collective and heads up Singapore drum ‘n’ bass portal Exitmusik.com. He is also known for firing up the dance floor with his rough-with-the-smooth approach when dishing out swerving bass lines and chest bursting drum beats. A lover of all things jazzy, this affable music aficionado is also known to explore the confines of broken beats, deep house, bossa nova, funk, hip-hop and down tempo in his sets. Vortex has also shared deck duties with international DJs like Goldie, Pendulum, London Elektricity, DJ Marky, Concord Dawn, Makoto, Nutone, Utah Jazz and more.

SUBVERT

DJ Zul, one of Singapore's most senior and prolific Drum N Bass DJs and Promoters. As co-founder of Subvert, Zul's has been promoting parties since 1998 and is currently resident at one of Singapore's favourite drum 'n' bass night Subversive.

One of the few promoters to bring drum & bass to the Lion City (Aphrodite in 1999 at Nox), Zul has since been responsible for the booking of top notch artists like Friction, Stamina MC, John B, Pendulum, London Elektricity and Logistics in Singapore. He also spent time as resident at White Label in Hong Kong (regularly working the turntables of Amnesia, Ing, Studio 1, Phi-Bs and Level 27) and has packed parties in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok whilst sharing deck duties with Aphrodite, Friction, John B, London Elektricity, Logistics, Pendulum and Teebee.

DJ MENTOR (a.k.a X’ho)

XHo.JPG

DJ Chris Ho, from Singapore, started his own club night Cyber-Tech back in the 1990s when techno was not a dirty word. He followed that up with Future Soul soon after. Known for an eclectic touch, he became the resident deejay at Soundbar at The Liquid Room, Singapore’s first chill-out bar, when the venue opened its doors in 2000.

He has since played at some of Singapore’s best clubbing venues. Phuture (Sessions Series), Zouk (Red Bull Music Academy Party 2006), Coco Latte (Electro-Go-Go), The Balcony at The Hereen, Loof, Q Bar, Kandi Bar, Pure in Ministry Of Sound, Café del Mar at Sentosa (opening for Alex Barck of Jazzanova), Home Club and The Butter Factory’s Art-Bar. The latter two venues are where he holds his monthly electroclash nights – Shameless and Pornography respectively, spinning under the moniker DJ Mentor.

He is, now, a resident deejay at km8 at Sentosa, Conde Nest named the beach bar one of the best new clubs of 2006.

He had manned the decks for various Bulgari and Philip Stein fashion events, Johnny Walker Classic private functions and at the Nokia-sponsored Fashion Week 2005. He was awarded the Individuality Award at the inaugural Streetstyle Awards 2001.

From chill-out to club-jazz to nu-funk, eclecticism is almost Chris’s middle-name, along with his other ‘e’ signature – electro-house.

He was the guest DJ at Insomnia in Berlin, Germany for the opening party of a film festival in Oct 2006. He also played for the Chicks On Speed’s concert, a Heineken Green Room Session, at Zouk in Nov 2006.

He definitely HAS been to Singapore, I was there at zouk specially to see him, he was even playing on the dance floor cos there was no stage for him. It was a 1 man show and he only got minimal setup. All that noise probably screwed up his brain, haha... I probably still have the flyer somewhere.......

phoenix, he's playing a breakcore set + a few surprises this time. Yeah probably his brain hehe

Scan the flyer for me? This will be hardcore!

He's playing a breakcore set, some of his new stuff... but knowing him, he's going to be rather unexpected

what to do. Dont forget he's not exactly a very tame artist :) - we kinda need the 18+ to fulfil his licensing

if there's sufficient demand, I could do something about the age limit issue, perhaps we could create an underage zone

also, phoenix, I just spoke to tracy from zouk. You are right, they did play - but it was in 1996 in which they do not have records in digital format (yes its that far back) and the night was marked as a "german music party".

hopefully this is as exciting as I believe it is :)

I did. It took zouk staff a whole 15 minutes to look it up too

remember dude, its 11 years ago.

But this much is true, this is the first time alec is in singapore post-ATR :)
