Last weekend, I tried out a relatively unknown brand called Albion Amp at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.
The shop (www.apptimistic.net , www.facebook.com/Apptimistic) has 2 high end 30~40 Watt combo amps available, the TCT series and GulfStream series.
TCT series sounds great for rock, metal and pop playing, a very modern sounding high gain amp.
But since I'm a big fan of Larry Carlton, the GulfStream was the one that I ended up spending a lot of time on (about 45 mins?). The clean channel is ultra warm and clean, while the Channel 2 has the "Dumble" amp quality that I've been chasing for! Overdriven tone with a perfect blend of clean tone quality in it!
Based on some Googlings. Albion is founded by Steve Grindrod, and apparently he was the chief designer for Marshall and Vox before Albion for 35 years! That explains the high-end boutique tone from these amps.
They are not cheap at $1399, but certainly value for money for their quality and tone!
Go and try them out, the shop has some good quality PRS-ish guitars, and a very nice sounding ES335-ish guitar laying around too!
Go to their Facebook page to watch some demo videos.
