I feel so useless with my guitar.

I think after i watching him in several youtube videos, i think he's the best at this day. I don't know why,

I noticed that he's melody is so damn good and his songs are not boring.
And seriously he knows how to use his shredding skills at the right time.

Man, i really feel so down and feel so embarassed touching my guitar. Not sure whether it's normal...

Wow, buckethead is really one mean player...and he's so robotic with his playing and sounds so eletronic.

Wonder how did he ever learn to play like that?

how can you compare yourself with buckethead???thats way too far man....even for any players in soft...there are many good local guitarist you can get some tips from and compare your playing with them..now youre like comparing yourself with guitar heroes.....

no point comparing your skill level with anyone.

set goals, but dont bring yourself down, the fact that i like satriani doesnt mean i go "man i suck i cant play like satriani"

its about setting goals. you'll be able to do it in no time with consistent PROPER practice. no pain no gain.

all the best in your journey on the 6 stringed side.

wah whats this man.....if you can remember i told you that if you feel demoralized by other people's playing you actually are.

and you're making it from bad to worse when you even think of quitting before even trying.......just because you saw buckethead play.

whats with this mentality dude? when i started playing guitar and strumming a few chords, i got such a shock when i saw guitarists like malmsteen, satriani, vai, SRV, jimi hendrix, eric johnson etc. but instead of backing away, i listened, watched and learned. it was hard and tough as alot of my theory wasnt very good and my technique was still not up to standard.

theres nothing wrong being at a lower level than other players. what matters is that you keep learning. john petrucci is an incerdible guitar player but explains that music is progressive and he never stops learning new stuff.

and, like all the others have explained, set goals for yourself. practice hard and practice SMART. no pain, no gain.

dont worry, im sure that with the right mindset, you'll be able to play good.

cheers ;)[/quote]

aww man I feel you..I truly do..I used to feel like that..

but I realise that I'm actually playing to be a guitarist..not another person...so yeah, that kinda helped me get on track everytime..

even you're slow..it doesn't mean you suck..you definitely have other good points on the guitar...seriously,shred or good solos aren't the only reason the guitar was created..

look at David Gilmour...he doesn't shred for shit, but he is good because he's a great songwriter...

don't just look at the technicality..

and buy a big bag of peanuts to cheer you up...your fingers would definitely go crazy tmr!

Actually when i see these kinda players playing, it made me wanna grab my guitar and start playing also...no need the pros, even some nice vid or mp3 track from the OM section always make me wanna grab my guitar and practice.

what you guys said is right...

anyone can recommend me a book to learn scales.

i actually prefer pentatonic scales but the info on the net are quite stagnant.

Can recommend me a place to buy a good guitar book for scales prefer those simpler ones ...

been playing natural scales though.

shouldnt u be INSPIRED to play like him instead of being DISCOURAGED?

well i was inspired when watching my guitar heroes play.

So what if he plays good?

Look at yourself in the mirror. It's you yourself, not buckethead in the mirror.

So don't compare yourself with him. Never ever compare different people in terms of music. Because every people out there is just different and unique to us.

If you're not good at shredding then maybe go try other things. Try to find your strength. Practice is a good way to be good. Another way is just a natural gift from god for being talented.

Nothing to be embarassed about. Everyone starts out lousy too.
Don't tell me buckethead starts out GOOD himself? :D

yeah, buckethead started quite badly...he came to me for some guitar lessons..I rejected him coz he can't remember most of the basic chords!! he was THAT lousy!

finally,he went to Paul Gilbert and paid a bag of peanuts for every lessons..thats why he's so good now...

its the bag of peanuts..not Paul Gilbert that made him god-like

What with Aneimic??

Buckethead took lessons from Paul Gilbert? I didn't see any of that when i wiki that??

Are you really sure he took lessons from Paul Gilbert?

a few of the peanuts in the bag that he brought to Paul Gilbert told me so

don't SAY you're thinking the peanuts are lying! thats blasphemous!

"Paul also teaches at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT). He works a great deal with GIT's division in Japan, where he lived for a time before relocating to LA. He also was the former teacher of Brian Carroll, the musician known as Buckethead.". wiki paul gilbert instead :)
