Advice on Shipping Calculation.

Hello!

I would like to enquire people who are experienced in overseas shipping charges; in this case, US to Singapore.

I am interested in getting an Eventide Space from Proguitarshop.

http://proguitarshop.com/eventide-space-reverb.html

It is listed as 499USD.

A local shop carrying Eventide quoted me 700SGD. So I would rather wait on the shipping time.

Here is my calculation.

Cost Price In USD

499.00
- 74.85 (15% off voucher)
424.15
+ 16.90 (Priority Mail International, Cheapest)
441.05
+ 30.8735 (7% GST)
471.92 USDConvert from USD to SGD,

USD471.92 * 1.25760 = SGD593.49

Is my calculation correct? Or is there something that I might have missed.

Thank you in advance! :)

I think that's it.

BUT.

I think they tend to forget about GST. Also PGS has free international shipping with orders above a certain amount, I think $500?

Thank you for your reply!

Yes, it is true that they have free shipping above $400 but I can only have one coupon entry. So I rather choose the 15% off than $17 off.

You are right. Proguitarshop did not include the tax when the item is added to the cart.

Any idea on how does the GST tax procedure usually goes? Do I pay Proguitarshop or the Singapore Custom? When is this transaction taking place?

Only if our side detains your item and requests for an invoice from your end. So you'll have to pay for GST at wherever your goods are detained. If not your item is delivered at your doorstep and this would mean you have successfully avoided paying the GST fees lol.

Oh and regarding shipping, what I meant is that you can grab someone on the board (whoever is interested) to share with you on your order to save on shipping. That way you get your 15% off item and he/she gets his item w/o shipping which is likelier to be cheaper than getting it from local stores.

USD $16.90 for Priority Shipping doesn't seem too right. I paid around $30-$40 for USPS Priority Shipping (takes about few days to 1 week) for my Ethos (which is about the same size as Space).

For small items, I typically get them shipped to CommGateway or Borderlinx, especially if on the US side they offer free shipping within US. For Borderlinx, you can consolidate the shipping to save costs.

GST is paid 2 ways in Singapore and not in US and depends on how you ship.
1) Item gets held by ICA, you go to pay at ICA and collect the item (USPS Shipping, if you are lucky, you might not need to pay)
2) Item gets delivered to your house (by Fedex/DHL) and you send them the GST + collection fee.

You can get a direct quote for your Space from Team108 (official TC Distributor in SG). I got mine from them. I think it was about $650 if I remembered correctly. The downside when ordering such a high-end/digital effect from the US is if something's wrong, sending it back for service would lose you tons of $.

Sold my Space for the BSR and Stereo WET. Space was an overkill for me :)

My 2 cents :)

Thank you both for your replies!

May I know more about how CommGateway and Borderlink works? Any simple examples?

Team108 quoted me $700SGD. Is the extra $100SGD~ worth the "insurance"?

Comgateway & Borderlink are by volume weight or actual weight whichever is higher.

Volume weight is package length(cm) x width(cm) x depth(cm) /6000
The weight of Eventide Space Reverb is 3lb which is around 1.36kg (Based on Amazon)

If it's 1.36Kg then comgateway Express (DHL) shipping to Singapore will be US$63.69

If u get the US one, it will come with the US adapter. So in the case if u wanna resell, would pose as a hindrance. I personally would not take the risk since this is a complex digital unit. Anything happens, would be troublesome to send back to US. Ask 108 to give you more discount :) Look for Alex, said that a friend bought a unit from him below $700, see if he can extend the same price :)

I think I will get from Team108 after all. I have not thought about the US adapter and the "insurance" from Singapore side. Appreciate the input, gunihoon!

Thank you all for your help and input! :)

The adaptor issue you can go sim lim towers and look for compatible ones. I did it for my turntable that I ordered from amazon cause the ones that they provide is for US usage.

No prob bro. Went through the same thought process when I got my Space :) Now u have to decide if u really want the Space. I sold mine shortly... too much of an overkill for me. Settled for a BSR and a Wet Stereo.

If you are a tweaker, go for the Space, if not, then BSR or Wet is really good :)

The adaptor should not be a hindrance for resale. Most people buying this level of products would be using a one spot or a multi powered adaptor like the voodoo labs pp2+ or equivalent anyway. Recently i've been getting more stuff on the internet. Greater range of products, its cheaper half the time. Don't have to worry whether a shop will run out of stock and order in.

With the exception of city music, i don't see any other shop with the capabilities for repair of high end digital stuff and would be necessary to send the product back to the USA. So don't worry save yourself $100+ bucks and the travel time and get from the net.
