advice on balance dif types of pickups

hi,
need some advice here. i emailed a pickup manufacturer for some recommendation on a bridge pickup , he's reply was a pickup with alnico II magnet. i'm actually matching it with a neck pickup using alnico V. i'm using a LP type guitar

my question is tht wld it be ok to mix alnico V (neck) with alnico II (bridge). as i understand that alnico V is hotter, so doesn't that makes the tone unbalanced?

You can de-gauss a magnet to make it weaker.

You can have less winds (less Resistance) to lower output.

Similarly, the Alnico II magnet pickup might have more winds...

There are ways to balance things... it could work out, anyway, since A5 is brighter than A2, it makes sense for the neck pickup position to be an A5.

shreddy... if bill lawrence read what you've posted... he'll strangle you to DETH!

redname: its OK to use any pickups for any config provided that their tone matches well.

Pickups are a combination of a lot of thing. Wire, wiregauge, windings, magnet types, spacing, eddy currents, inductance, baseplates etc etc

Not just will this magnet match the other magnet.

Hehe, which ones? Better sort it out here and get correct, or the wrongs will spread!

hmmmm.... I'm not an expert myself and I'll probably spread even more wrongs or half truths....

but what is know is...

1) The amount of coils is directly related to the amount of resistance. Longer wire longer resistance. BUT resistance is not a measurement of output.
2) For all other matters.... Bill Lawrence Website

No, let me be the 1st here to strangle Shredder Moo of a cow! then I'll pass over to you to continue b4 we ship him in a boxto ur BL fren. Hahahahaha.

dosent make sense to me man....i thought the bridge should house the hotter pup?

ok but can we split shipping and chop the cow up a few pieces cos sending by Speedpost savers box is quite value for money!

Ah! Then what I said is not even a HALF-truth!

Sheesh.

Its an outright WRONG lah! I mistook the resistance reading as a measure of the number of coils!

Aiyo... just say lah Edder...

I allow you to chop up my left hoof to ship to Mr BL. In a box packed by Randolf Sir!

no ah.... you're absolutely correct here.

the higher the resistance, the longer the wire, the higher amount of coils.

but higher resistance does not equals higher output and vice versa.

and resistance is not a measurement of output.

its too complicated to just say this equals that when doing pickup comparisons. I don't really know that much as well but when a pickup sounds good... I guess we all know that it sounds good.

Uh.

Then Mr BL differs from a lot of people/pup-makers who claim that resistance (or the number of coils in a pickup) effects output voltage?

I dunno. I'm not a tech. I just use what I use, read what I read and notice what I notice.

If anything, I'm a low Resistance, weaker magnets person... I'd let the pedals do the grinding heavy stuff.
