A softer side to us headbangers?

Then you cannot be deemed sane. But you can be dumped into the same trash can of Black Meturl Mats. Please ignore this if it hurts too much, I mean no harm. I mean only truth. As you may or may not know, truth hurts. I sympathize with you :(

Tell me you're not a metalhead, or you oughta be dumped in the same trash can as the metal posers. If you happily admit to disliking metal, then I'll just ignore your comment.

im metalhead.but listen to other stuff but occasionally end up listening to metal.its an addiction.

That remark was meant for gutturalpiss. Dime if you were not a metalhead, i'd be dissing you for insulting the memory of Dimebag Darrell.

Cool it man. Be cool.

Anyway, it's kinda good to listen to other forms of music at times besides metal. But seriously, I have something against mainstream pop. Should listen to classical and jazz at times. Gives you new ideas on music.

hydrofly:

I completely respect your opinion and your stand;

but do you realise that almost every metal band you like would have been influenced by and enjoyed non-metal music at some point in time?

I enjoy metal myself. :)

Well I listen to Metal. Religiously? I would say no, but I would say passionately. You must be too obsessed with being a "metalhead" to have defined my comment to be from someone who should not be a fan of Metal music ;)

The quest for trooness only makes one similar to those whom you call "posers". When you say you "hate" a certain kind of music, or everything over a certain kind, it really does not equate to a sane character. Look at this thread, it absolutely proves the sanity of mankind, of a sane "metalhead". But you apparently do not agree, and think your view is the authority and perfect epitome of a Metal fan. Certainly, you may call yourself different. With regards to that, I have total respect and wish you a life of joy full of nothing but Metal in every corner.

ah thats a much better way of putting it. i do hate mainstream pop and indie, but thats different matter, non-metal stuff i listen to is mainly paganini, or any fancy classical piece that catches my fancy. Such as the rite of spring, the one that caused a riot.

That's good, but you should try replacing "hate" with "dislike". You see, "hate" is a very strong term. I'm not talking about proper usage, I'm just talking about the common man's understanding. It implies you have something against the subject on a personal level. I'm sure that's not the case, Pop definitely cannot injure you in any way. We fans of Metal normally tend to get too extreme when it comes to anything that doesn't sound superior, technical, or heavy. In the same sense, you wouldn't tell a girl whom you dislike for her appearance that you hate her, right?

hehe, music doesnt discriminate people, but we like rejecting music we dont understand.

Is it the music or us, in general. the lower form of beings even thou we can think.

I guess it's about listening to real people making real music. It doesn't have to be metal. We can't deny that Deep Purple, Aerosmith and even BB King made real music. Metal they aren't but doesn't mean people shouldn't appreciate their talent. Even James Hetfield listens to John Mellencamp and Nick Cave and draw influences from them (hence Load and Reload though they suck). Slash even admitted he drew influences from BB King's blues scales and I'm bloody sure metalheads like Dave Mustaine and Tony Iommi had other non-metal influences too. If the argument is about the usual LA manufactured shit like boy bands and Britney Spears of the world, then I'd agree to some extent.

i may be a metal head, but interesting enough, i listen to a lot of classical as well.
as for pop stuff, i dont like indie, cuz i find it boring. but funk, jaz and bossa nova get my groove going.

besides, i'm a metal head, but then i also love to read classic literature and debate on sociology and economics and philosophy.
weird eh?

Nothing wrong bro, im a metalhead too, and i listen to old stuff. I cant possibly listen to metal and not listen to other music, i listen to what i think is nice. However, emo, indie, and certain mainstream stuff, i cant really appreciate it. Sounds awful to me. I like philosophy too

I don't think it's weird. A lot of metalheads read a wide range of literature to find inspiration for lyrics. Dave Mustaine being one....
I count The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco as one of my favourite books of all time. It's all about finding what we like and not giving a rat's ass about what others think. That's being original. For as much as we diss pop and hip hop fans/artistes, they diss metalheads too...

Nb my friend really techno siao. His music is Death metal and techno. Angerfist techno which he blasts in his car everytime.
