A softer side to us headbangers?

K i just heard them, not really death metal lah but pretty good. Metal and techno haha

Atari Teenage Riot!!

hardcore stuff. forgot what genre they're classified under.
Eh, i miss the days of old school techno man.
any remember Sparks?

Okay, I have to admit. I'm TOTALLY against techno. No offense to metalheads who appreciate techno...

But techno is like computerized music? And many poseurs just love to blast techno out of their handphones! It totally irritates me.

Okay, I'm a metalhead too and I enjoy philosophy too. I generally think that metalheads are people who tend to think more than others. Anyone who disagrees?

poseurs? u mean our dear uniquely singaporean ah bengs and ah lians?

thats why i listen to breakbeats, drum and bass and trance.
plus dark wave, dark trance and anything else that's not listened to in the mainstream.

depends on what kinda metal heads u're talking about empihsrow.
as for techno being computerised music, well, yes, computerised music, but its not exactly that easy to create. its alot of filtering and playing with sliders and getting a proper groove out.

depends on what kinda metal heads u're talking about empihsrow.

Haha, it's true. I cannot imagine some gangster listening to metal and talking to me about intellectual stuffs.

Although I hope that happens.

Eh, but I wrote "generally"... I think it's because of my metalhead friends. We're like all from JCs.

But no offense to others... It's just my humble view.

haha indie cant even be labelled as "indie" anymore especially when most of the popular supposedly indie bands are signed to mainstream labels..........

What happened to the term "independent"? well same thing that happened when "emo" went mainstream :)

u kinda decribed me.
i'm an ite dropout, with a mohawk and multiple piercings. and yes, i speak proper english and can debate with you if need be.

and its lead me to be ostracised from any cliques in school and being called an elitist weirdo.

thanks bro dime. :)

maybs thats why i like soft so much.
but i find that, mayb metal heads that are more obvious about their taste in music, do tend to get ostractised as well.

anyone find that it rings true for them?

besides, i'm a metal head, but then i also love to read classic literature and debate on sociology and economics and philosophy.
weird eh?
HUH? What's weird? Literature, sociology, blah blah blah, so?

I don't see any level of significance in that entire statement. This is not a thread about personalities..is it?

Anyhow, I do get where you're coming from. You're thinking in terms of the typical commoner, to justify yourself. Apparently, these commoners only think of fans of Heavy Metal as illiterate and homeless. You know what? You don't have to justify yourself to anybody :)

One more interesting fact someone mentioned, let me highlight again: The Metal genre (including all sub-genres) has more intellectual content than any other form of music.

We do, however, have 3 different groups of people. One, the hooligans. Two, the nerds (most of you). Three, highly rare but does exist (myself maybe?) - the hooligan intellectuals. Black Metal Mats? That isn't Singapore-only. Homeless, illiterate gangsters are everywhere.

One more thing. Electronic and techno = win  Ye know, it's fun. Play around with samplers, software sequencers and synthesizers, you'll know.

thanks for the kind words guttural piss bro. yes, mayb i am viewing myself from the viewpoint of a "commoner" as you put it. but then, in a stereotyping society such as ours, the majority view does count to a certain extent. so i do have to take it in the view of the majority of people in sg.
we are a democratic soceity after all.
although to say we're democratic is a farce, its more meritocratic than that.

and yeah, doing synth stuff is fun. been working with saito recently doing industrial/trance/drum and bass stuff. i can appreciate the fun and difficulty of it.

depends on what the world around you is like. its more interesting to leave the earphones on, but with no music piping through it. listen to what ppl are saying while they think u're listening to music.

I enjoy having a puff in the silence of the night. And sometimes I do leave my earphones on without music so that people don't know that i'm peeking in on their mindless chatter.

yeah. thats always nice. go to your deserted playground at 3am in the morning and take a puff. best if you lie on the ground on a clear night and watch the stars while letting your minder wander over the haze of nicotine.

Eh, nerds? What an understatement. I have never seen a metalhead who is a nerd. And I can't imagine.

Hell, that means my mental capability faced endangerment when I stopped listening to metal?

One right here. Retired early.
